Nice post.
Some people don't get this. They don't realize that the need for audio communication to successfully raid is a major participation barrier to some people who are otherwise very good players.
I was thinking about a similar situation I ran into during Age of Triumphy. We were trying to do the Atheon Challenge and picked up a 6th who was a guy who clearly had a major speech impediment that caused him to stutter very badly. So trying to talk on a mic or make callouts was a MAJOR struggle for him. But by the same token, he clearly was a very good player and knew what to do.
It was frustrating for us as a team because we really wanted to do the raid with him....and had it been ANY other activity, we would have stuck it out with him....but there was **just** no way we could do it without everyone being able to make those timely callouts. The margins for error in that activity were just too small, and the timing had to be too perfect.
We ended up having to boot him, but we all felt like shit about it. Because he clearly was very good, but we just couldn't figure out how to work around the communication barrier.
So this notion that everyone just needs to "suck it up" and join a clan...and that they're just somehow being "obstinate" and "lazy" in not wanting to group up and raid.....is bullshit.
