Can someone please explain this to me?
Why would someone EVER want to use a sniper over a rocket launcher, especially for PvE? Just another screw up on Bungies part. They can buff snipers all they want. Nobody is ever going to use them.
Edit 1: number 3 on trending. At what point does Bungie put the weaon system back to D1's?

I’m pretty sure that if you increase their damage to 4-5 times that of a rocket launcher, people will start using snipers again.

When you have 5 hive knights spread out, a sniper is a better approach. I honestly think sniper kills should be stealth and not attract other enemies after a sniper kill.

The first time I used an arc sniper against a yellow bar captain and my head shot did not remove his shield all snipers were dead to me.

Only way to make snipers and shotguns viable again without changing the weapon slot would be max out the carried ammo capacity to 30 or 40 rounds for each

If they buffed them to the point where a precision hit with a sniper did comparable damage to a rocket, I would use them

D2 maps are made mostly for CQC and medium range engagements. Auto rifles compete at almost every range possible and sniper flinch discourages using them.

5 RisposteFirst of all, snipers aren't meant to be up front and tanking damage or in the front lines. Snipers should be in the back picking off enemies a safe distance away. Also it's personal preference.

Because I don’t like rockets? I use fusion/linear fusion rifles. Just a preference.

You wouldn't. The current loadout system is garbage. It's the main reason why the game isn't fun to play.

Rockets are better for groups, snipers better at long range killing single high value or high danger targets. Rockets will kill a bunch of guys, but the good sniper will kill that one guy from a mile away that changes the whole tide of battle.

I started off D2 using snipers. Still in the D1 mind state. I quickly realized this was a mistake when soloing stuff. Shotguns and Rockets just did WAY more damage WAY faster. One close, one at long range. These new style neutered D2 rocket launchers got boring very quickly. Then I started running Wardcliff Coil. While great and fun, sky rocketing majors way off the map is kind of inconvenient sometimes LOL. Eventually I settled on Telesto lol...

There used to lots of occasions a sniper was preferred in D1 I can see why some would still want to use one even in D2. Raid sniper is particularly good.

I just shut down 2 supers with a sniper rifle in IB. One of them was pretty lucky, but it felt rewarding. 3 kills with sniper is better than solo rocketing someone twice.

2 RisposteTrials you can get 3-4 kills vs a rocket 1 Plus rockets will only now get 1 rocket per brick instead of 2 since power ammo will spawn more often

You know can still play D1? I still do and I use snipers a lot but I always have a back plan. In D2 there is no back up plan. Also a rocket has area of effect so you can remove the shield of multiple targets in one shot. Try sniping that! So if you need a snipe fix, like me, have a go with D1.

They are not a particularly easy weapon to use when using a console joystick. I can't speak for those who are using mouse/keyboard combos but my guess would be that would be OK.

Rockets are easier to use. That said some guy was just destroying my team in the Crucible with a sniper the other day so there's not doubt that they can be effective.
