For me, if I have a 3oC and a Fireteam Medallion on at the same time, I'll get purples for days. If I have just the 3oC, I'll get an exotic almost every 45 mins to an hour.
Not sure if that's intended or if the medallion buff will take precedent over gear drops but that's how it's been working for me.
Also, I've gotten an exotic from Mercury patrols and from a Lost Sector. Just FYI.

I had the same thing happen!! I used a 3oC and a fireteam medallion at the same time. I never did more than 4 strikes in a row and then switched to either public events or crucible. The only reason I switched activities is that I think I read somewhere about diminishing rewards for doing the same activity continuously. I received a total of 14 legendary engrams, 2 illuminated engrams and ZERO exotic engrams. I wonder if the 3oC and the fireteam medallion don’t play well together and it screws with something somehow

Well they should be stack able in my eyes, after all it show BOTH buffs on character sheet!

Now that you guys mention it, I’ve noticed a huge increase in legendaries but not really exotics. Ran several strikes and public events yesterday with both boons active and got 10-15 legendaries but only 1 exotic. Hmm...

I was going to try an experiment and see what I get using one one of them at a time. It would be a small sample size but it will be a start on figuring out what the issue is with the 3oC
