Some advantages and disadvantages about gun rolls in D2... Pros: No more grinding for the same weapon with the rolls you wanted. The Swarm... *shudders* No more doing stuff to unlock the weapon perks. I admit that was kinda fun back then. Cons: Slightly takes away the excitement of getting guns. I dunno... Maybe reduces the motivation of looting? I honestly can't think anymore. I don't mind the static rolls too much.
