I imagine the change is for the more competitive players (me included as the more people in a match the less predictable it is and more chaotic it is). They really should've just kept to the standard 6v6 for those who prefer that and just made a simple competitive TDM 4v4 style for those who wanted it. Best to try and let them know NOW so that it can be there by launch.
