It's not a disease. It's nanotech and it's subverting your armours systems not affecting the actual Guardians themselves, though currently it's boosting the armour stats and giving new armour effects. In theory you could end up having your armour subverted by a strain of the nanites that were aligned to splicers. Likely this would have a negative effect on armour systems as the nanites would be darkness infused.
