In ancient Rome, they feared the powerful. Whenever a Senator (weapon) or a General (subclass) garnered too much power or popularity, they were assassinated (nerfed). And as we all know, Rome destroyed themselves, with help from the barbarian tribes (nerf herders). Granted it took close to 700 years (3, in bungies case), but history has proven that weakening yourself will never lead to success. With each and every nerf, tweak, adjustment, bungie brings themselves closer to self-destruction.
