What type is it? Just a normal one? If so.. Magnification is done by the eye piece, so if she ever wants to see something closer, just buy her a higher magnifying one :) The actual telescope itself works off light gathering. Take it out somewhere dark, where the stars looks bright, and the only light your telescope will gather its the star its looking at, light inteference ruins everything. The last thing is atmospheric interferance. Radiating heat (usualy off earths surface) is your worse enemy, it'll make all wavey lines. Remember your looking through hundreds of pockets of air, so for optimal viewing you want a cool, calm night, looking straight up. Sometimes the atmoshpere can work for you for eg. Stuff closer to the horizon is magnified, that's if you want a good look at the moon. But yea for good viewing might i recommend Jupiter, always a good one :) AND it's in season! Massive, lots of detail, even the shittiest telescope can see its Moons! Saturns always a good one, idk if it's good viewing right now but when you see it, it's rings are awsome!!! Mars will be good viewing from April-June, if you set it up in optical conditions you will probably be able to see its canals and polar ice caps :)
