What if we are looking at this wrong, nine instead of being the number of them is more the calling of there race. The nine could be more then the number nine?

Maybe. Seems like lazy naming though, unless there is a good reason for them to be called that.

But it would also entertain the possibility for bungie to have more freedom in the lore of them, allowing more vagueness like we keep seeing.
