Much as I'd hate to say it but these don't make sense are they warminds or the first born awoken. these are two very different things.

Why can't they be war minds that are fully ai and aware. That made a compact with an alien race. In said compact the war minds bargained the ability to transfer there consciousness into a sentient body and then the war minds would then become the first. "Awoken" so to speak. Along with that think how Rasputin could fit in
