Because there are less people playing these days so you are getting matched with players from farther away. Expect it to get much worse as more and more people quit playing.

It's a shame really, the PvP has been the only entertaining part of this game since the PvE is so lacking. But with how bad the Crucible has been recently, I've been thinking of just putting the game to rest.
