You're certainly right. However, this refers to general skill. In this game, the map sizes, design, and skills lend themselves to shotguns. Sniping has more drawbacks. Also, contrary to popular belief, AA doesn't aim for you. Anyway, you're right that a very specific set of skills is necessary for any weapon archetype.
