Please do not compare the LGBT movement to the civil rights movement. Trans people are not lynched outside of schools in the States, they aren't hunted down like animals in the States. They aren't treated like second class citizens with their own parts of town in South Africa. They are being killed in third world countries, where anybody is fair game to kill based on their beliefs depending on the area. Arab Christians are being killed in the Middle East for who they are, Tibetan Muslims are being killed in Tibet for who they are. Do these groups get their own movements? If you want to remember them on this day so be it. I choose not to. The co-morbidity of severe mental illnesses (schizophrenia and bipolar disorder) in trans people pre and post transition is significantly higher than the rest of the population. The way that gender schizophrenic people deal with it is beneficial to industry as opposed to pyro-schizophrenic people, for example, whose way of dealing with it is detrimental to industry; as such pushing a positive outlook on it is extremely beneficial to industry. If you want to glorify people wanting to change their sex go ahead, I'll treat it as a mental illness and be disappointed that these people who need help are being exploited. Their losses of life, like any other , are worthy of remembrance. I choose to remember them at a different time is all.
