Everyone was level 40 on launch day, everyone was 300+ light 2 weeks in. They have to delay some stuff to keep people interested, I believe they have great system for delayed content right now. They make it situational instead of just putting a timer on it.

The only problem is you are letting the game stagnate. For me I slowly stopped caring about destiny to the point where I didn't even bother playing this week. If they were releasing weekly exotic quests you would have my interested but at the moment it don't see a point in the grind.
