You didnt see upgrades because everything you could get was already lower level than what you had. Did you ever kill the final boss in a hard mode raid that gave gear you needed, only to randomly be given a piece that much worse than what you had? Nope. Cause you knew what gear level to expect. You expect to get gear that will help make your character better so future runs get easier and so you can progress to harder bosses. People here just want to progress, at least to SOME degree. They cant even get normal mode drops.
