not necessarily, it's idiomatic at this point -- kinda like how someone saying 'bless you' to someone else after they've sneezed doesn't necessarily mean they really think that person's soul is attempting to escape their body or whatever. most likely anyone saying 'hot damn' will be from the southeastern part of the country though.

Necro-response! Yes, I gathered that obviously, I was being rather more intentional with my response to gain insight into the other persons point of view. You know, as bread crumbs are to lay down the best intention of mice and men, as was I in order to better grasp his frame of reference rather than the actual idiom itself...context is king.
