I would rather get a reward for doing an activity instead of a carrot.
I guess bungie's hopes that everyone will develop a gambler's mentality is starting to pay off.
The reward of an antiquated rune is no different than getting 3oC. It requires you to do another activity, which was the reason for the rune's removal from the loot table.
