Now I may support gun control to an extent, but I believe if you're a sane, responsible law abiding citizen, you shouldn't have your 2nd Amendment rights taken away. That said, I'm thinking about taking some firearms classes once I'm out of high school. And possibly a handheld firearm for self-defense when I'm out of college. Any good suggestions for a sidearm for self-defense in close quarters?

  • Get the Utah license and I carry a Ruger LCP, .22 caliber but a bullet will stop what it needs to so j wouldn't over do it

  • I've got my concealed carry license. I usually just carry my .44 or .357.

I know this is barely half of your post, but the second amendment only protects the people who own firearms if they are in a militia that was made out of necessity to protect the free state. Here's the full second amendment:
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
• 40 caliber Glock. Dependable sidearm with plenty of stopping power.

In self-defense scenarios there are 2 main areas to explore. Stopping Power Capacity I recommend stopping power over capacity. You want to put the attacker down as fast as possible, this can be achieved through either caliber or projectile. For caliber I recommend .45 ACP https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/.45_ACP and for projectile I recommend the RIP rounds http://www.ammunitionsupplycompany.com/mobile/product.aspx?ProductCode=g2rip%2D45acp&404;http://www.ammunitionsupplycompany.com:80/G2-RIP-45-ACP-Ammo-p/g2rip-45acp.htm= Now on to the gun. There are an absolute s*it ton of .45's out there, though I recommend either: Kimber http://www.kimberamerica.com H&K http://hk-usa.com The guns that these companies make are extremely well made and are a top choice for military/police forces. Kimber probably makes one of the best (if not the best) 1911's out there. Shot quite a few and they are extremely accurate out of the box, downside is that they are expensive (it's worth it though), but you usually want the best when it comes down to life or death. Haven't really had my hands on too many H&K handguns though but really anything they make are top notch. H&K: I recommend the USP Compact or the HK45 Compact. USP would be the go to for me, lighter and shorter than the HK45. http://hk-usa.com/hk-models/usp-compact/ Kimber: I recommend the Compct CDP 2 http://www.kimberamerica.com/compact-cdp-ii-a?___SID=U Regardless of what I think though, your preferences will always be different than anyone else's, so go out and hold a few, maybe even shoot some to get a good idea. #rant over

  • Thanks, dude! I may be in no hurry to take firearms classes,
since I'm still in high school and my parents are stricter about gun control than I am, probably not a good idea for the moment
but it's something I am quite interested in learning about once I've got a place of my own a few years from now. I'm not a really violent guy, haven't been in any real fights, but it's better to have a bit of protection if you get dragged into a life or death situation anyway.

I'm in high school as well currently, and am also looking to eventually carry. The only problem is I live in CA and their gun laws are a pain in the a**. It's stupid how much they restrict firearms here. But yea I get what you mean, I want it so that if something went down I would be able to do something about it

  • Glock is cheap and reliable. A lot of models to choose from. If you can find a size and caliber you like, they'll probably have it. That said, I sold my Glock and got an H&K USP45C.
