I'm at rank 4
The crucible quest line gives you xp to gunsmith in one of the steps
so do that if you want to level up as fast as possible
He didn't gimme any special gun at rank 4 btw

I am there because I happened to do his bounties the day TTK dropped and was already level 1 the next day when he got more Bounties in. I hear lots of folks missed out on those First Bounties.
