Their is a easier way to figure out how to get exotics or not.
Look in the armory on bungie and it tells you how you can get it via a icon.

The problem with that is that pretty much every exotic armor piece from year one has a year 2 version in the armory! Now go look at your blueprints. Do you see any boots? There isn't even a section for boots yet. All the armor whether year 2 versions of year 1 or brand new exotics say the exact thing in the armory. This item can be acquired as a drop or reward from the taken king dlc and Xur can sell this item. Well a lot of armor isn't in the game yet and doesn't even have blueprints.

I have a feeling we are thinking of the same armory. When I say armory, I am talking about one here on bungie.net. It tells you almost every exotic and how they can be obtained (only exceptions are the hidden exotics for obvious reasons.)
