The new meta of auto and pulse rifles introduced a lot of reticle movement for snipers. No sniper can beat CQC weapons like shotguns or the Last Word unless the sniper is scoped in on a spot and you run it I it. And most of Bungie's maps are CQC or medium sized so sniping it way more dangerous. Also, there's a very visible red dot when someone scopes you with a sniper rifle.
