From a business standpoint taking away a service someone paid for is much different than just not being competitive in that service...

  • But from a practical perspective its not.

  • It is important to remember that these companies are not making games to make people happy. They make them for the money.$$$

  • And that is what is ruining gaming as a whole. Video games should be a passion project for a dev not a cash grab. Thats not to say they cant make money but they shouldn't be designing things in such a way that maximizes profits, they should make a game that maximizes fun or artistic quality or something along those lines.

  • Maybe you should focus on indie games rather than AAA games. AAA's cost a lot of money to make and market and need to make that money back and then some.

  • The thing is they shouldnt have to force people into buying their dlc to make money. They should be able to just make a good dlc that makes people want to buy it. Which in all honesty they did with ttk. Its great, but they way they are treating people who dont buy it is actually losing them more sales than it earns them. (Probably, I havnt researched that stuff). If they make good stuff they dont need to be so heavyhanded putting business into the game. They also made plenty of profit in the first week alone so its not like they are strapped for cash or anything like that. Destiny has been a cash cow for them, they dont need to be so desperate to dry it out.

  • The way I see it is the people who didn't buy the DLC aren't contributing to keeping the servers up but still get to use them. The only group I feel got screwed over are the people overseas who have to pay way too much for TTK.

  • The way I see it servers are just a courtesy item from bungie. We are paying for a game not the servers. Kinda like if you go and buy a car, but then the dealership decides to charge you every year to keep the tires. Sure you can bring up "but you dont own the game" and all that but I think the analogy is fair enough.

  • Leasing the car would have been a better analogy. As for the servers, this game doesn't exist without the servers. There is no offline version of the game (even our save data is stored on Bungie servers). Someday, the servers will go down and there won't be any more Destiny. Then we can all cry together.
