Precursors came before the universe but star wars comes before most of the events in halo on time scale: STAR WARS was invented as a franchise first. The concepts from halo tho date back to sci fi books like ringworld and the origin of concepts of weapons of mass destruction and mutually assured destruction though. Star wars takes concepts from virtually everything tho in most senses.
