No shit man, this happens to me often. It's a phenomena called sleep paralysis in which the bodies motor cortex is not functioning, but the eyes are perceiving vision as though it were awake. This being said the mind is still half asleep, causing what I have taken to calling the black one to appear near my bed. I can't move, and I can't scream for help. Look it up if you want a better or actually medically accurate explanation.

I know you have no choice really but I bet it was terrifying when it first happened. At least you have learned to cope with it.

Now I just kind of lay in bed staring at his face on the ceiling as it slowly fades away the more awake I become. Now the only scary part about the experience is I have no control when it happens.

That would be annoying you could be anywhere if there is no way to control when it happens. I am glad you manage to cope though must have been hard to get your head around.

I've had it. What you see can be controlled to an extent, it's like a dream.

Which I also can do to a certain extent. With sleep paralysis, lucid dreaming kind of came with. I usually can keep him standing in the corner, but I can't make him go away until I'm fully awake.

What does he look like, and does he seem malevolent?

He stands very tall even in the corner; so tall in fact that his neck extends along the ceiling overtop of me. By now I know he's not real whenever I see him, but at first I thought he only meant to do me harm.
