If you read genesis, when Cain killed Abel, God had Adam mark Cain, because as punishment Cain was to leave the garden and go out into the world, so no one would harm him. Cain them found his wife and so on. Meaning the world was populated. What I get from that, Adam and Eve were not the first humans. They were the first created without sin.
