Dr. Carver was a mathematician who created a formula that could estimate the number of deaths as a result of conflict based on the current socio-political state of humanity. His initial findings estimated several million humans dead from the oncoming conflict. Dr. Halsey however noticed that his equation was incorrect. Upon fixing it, the corrected output estimated not millions, but billions of human casualties. This correction ultimately lead to Dr. Carver's suicide, and Dr. Halsey and ONI's motivation to curb the coming bloodbath.
