Sorry i didnt read tour novel the whole way, but etheric light is easy to get. I disagree with your first point entirely. I think bungie wanted to get everyone to 34 as fast as possible. You could do it easily in the first week.

If it takes you that long, thats a serious problem

Everything from moving in orbit, to loading screens to going back to the tower or reef to turn things in takes forever . Nothing in this game is fast. So yeah I'd say the grind is real. This game eats time like no other game I've played
