Or it could be like firefight in ODST where they add in extra stuff to spice up the waves beyond just enemy type.
Heck maybe they are adding stuff like relics to the bosses in strikes as well.

That would be kinda cool as another modifier, maybe give it some kind of disadvantage though. Like how burns work. That's one thing that would be nice, a greater variety of modifiers for nightfalls. And maybe the ability to start a strike playlist with modifiers on it.
