We all know HoW is dropping soon. I'm as hyped as the next guy - probably more so. But I can't shake my concerns. Let me know what you think...
Destiny is a fantastic game. It embodies all of the most fun aspects of a well-produced first person shooter: quick, tense, adrenaline inducing gameplay is complimented by intriguing and diverse environments. This, coupled with a variety of interesting customization options (armor, guns, class items) make destiny stand out among similar games of the genre. The game is a fresh take on an old idea, and it's uniqueness defines it.
However, like any major project, it isn't flawless. The greatest challenge Destiny faces is a lack of content. I (know I'll be disputed on this) consider myself to be a dedicated player. With 2 32s and around 10 days on the game, I feel well-versed in the world of destiny regarding the game and the community. So while I know this complaint is not new, I would like to bring some points I feel have been ignored to the foreground of the forums.
As previously stated, the lack of content is a key factor that detracts from this game. Destiny, like many other MMOs, employs a grinding RNG system as an alternative to definitive loot. This system is generally successful - when there's enough content to maintain interest during a grind. This problem might not exist had DB been released as part of the original game. (That's in the past, so I suppose it's neither here nor there). House of Wolves will contain a plethora of new content to explore - but how long can it last?
DLC is meant to expand upon a sturdy base of content. While I don't doubt it'll be great (I love this game and all the content), I fear that the sense of newness won't last. With several months between each DLC, the grind loses any appeal. Replacing a raid with a survival game mode (not sure what it actually is, please explain, pardon my dust) is something else I view as a mistake. Part of the sense of adventure from new DLC comes from overcoming the greatest challenge the game has to offer.
Destiny isn't a lost cause. I'd hardly call it broken. But there's always room for improvement. It makes me sad to see posts saying "I've left destiny because..." each day. This game has the potential to redefine FPS. Bungie just needs to realize this potential.
Thnks,
