This is what I do if I'm starting a new character. I go balls hard in Vangaurd Strikes until I get max marks for two weeks while doing bounties each day to get my Vanguard lvl up to 3. Then you can buy Vangaurd gear. Then once I get to lvl 27, 28 I do the Eris Morn Urn Sacrifice Bounty because one you do that she will give you a free legendary piece of gear that has 33 light on it.
