[quote]Why is the word dictionary in the dictionary?[/quote] The word dictionary is in there because, like thousands of other words, has a verified definition and therefor is added to the list of English words in something called a dictionary, the word defines itself stating to be a list of words all with their own definitions. As strange as it is to have the own dictionary word in a dictionary, it's still necessary to state it's definition along with thousands of other words, after all, that is a dictionary's job. :)
