As someone who has used the gun it is complete shite unless I am very close to the target in which case I just get blasted with a shotgun, if used like a regular hand cannon it is mediocre at best, when used as intended the effective range is absurdly horrible.

I would agree with you. Thorn or even Fatebringer and word of Crota are better at anything that isn't close range.
