KoroiNeko's right. It's not just you. I play on PS5 and I deal with long load times and black screens as well. The likely culprit is high server traffic, akin to a four-lane highway during rush hour. That or Bungie's getting DDoSed again.

I've always believed it's networking & crossplay is a huge cause. Long story short, MS upgraded their network 18 months ago, & games with code written before then see desync between psn & Xbox. If I join a tower solo, land in 10 secs If I join a primarily pc heavy tower, I land in 30 secs If I join a primarily psn tower, I land in 3-4 minutes If I join a tower with psn fireteams there, it's 7-10 mins & much better to logout & reqeue a new tower However, people I trust tell me it's old gen consoles causing this, & PS4 is still the biggest platform so the theory has weight. I'm in a heavy psn area though, so everything is slow, even fast travel , if there's any PSN in the instance :(

This ain’t DDoS man. A DDoS attack would bring everything down, not just the game itself. Their website and app and API should be crashing too under a DDoS attack. Unless I’m wrong. But this just seems to be an issue with the servers Bungie broke and now can’t fix.

However I will say that from my experience with DDoS attacks in other games that it effected the ability to log in to the game, not the overall server stability while inside the game. It does seem kind of strange but once again I'm by no means an expert on DDoS attacks at all, so who knows.

Edited by TKE-Aquila: 9/23/2023 6:27:30 PMMaybe, unless they found a way to attack the game servers without affecting everything else. Don't quote me; I'm not exactly a computer technician. Either way, as far as I can tell, the problem seems to be on their end, since I haven't had any internet issues of late. knocks on wood

The theory of it being fake holds weight. Everything at bungie runs on bungie.net, that's the internet infrastructure of the company, it's why when they do server maintenance the whole company stops, apps, 3rd party sites, everything goes down, so ddos imvho would affect the app & 3rd party sites.

Of course you assume everyone can turn cross play off, being on ps5
