Well You can possible have about 15 tries at a gjallarhorn per week. 3 Crotas, 3 atheons, 3 nightfalls, 3 exotic chests in VoG ( 1 per character), 3 death singers.

But I only have 2 eligible for VoG and for Crota, but the second is a lvl 28 with blue chest and leg armour and can't contribute to Crota yet

Not the same thing. You roll the dice 3 more times. Plus hard has a different loot table.

How so? If you do it on hard, you get the rewards for both normal and hard, by doing it on hard it increases your chances for an exotic a slight bit. There isn't a different loot table for exotics when playing on normal or hard at the end of either raid boss. You can get any exotic weapon, just a better chance when clearing it on hard before normal.

Your overthinking the loot table thing. Normal has a few less items (yes I know you get a few less drops) but with a smaller loot table, you increase your chances at an exotic instead of another helm/crux/sparrow/vex/etc.

But there aren't less loot drops on either of the difficulties. NORMAL - shader - emblem -song of ir yut -hunger -black hammer -abyss (fusion) -ship HARD -word -fang -shader -ship -sparrow -crux They both have 6 loot drops each. Giving the same chance for an exotic on either. (Give or take I could be missing maybe 1 reward for either difficulty, but I don't think I am) Same percent chance

Not totally true. I've gotten more exotics out of normal mode than hard mode. For me at least from experience. In theory, 2 loot kills from a raid = double your chances. Worked this way for me on most of my exotics dropped from a raid boss.

Getting more exotics on normal is just basically by luck. It's all random remember. And if you do normal before hard it lessens the chances of an exotic. Say there is a 1% chance for an exotic on either normal or hard. If you do one at a time then you only have a 1% chance each time. If you do hard first then you have a 2% chance, resulting in a better chance at exotics. You may have gotten more on normal (as you say) but that's just completely by luck.
