I am a Computer Science student going into Network Security. I know Java, C, enough PHP to secure existing code, Unix and batch scripting. I use Unix and batch scripts a lot in my job to automate tasks. I also write some of my own tools like network scanners, and my current project and intruder detection system. I am an Ethical Hacker so I also work on password crackers and other tools to test security where I work. Best way to know you are secure is to try to hack your system. (Note: I will not post code that could be used in a malicious way because it would be unethical and violates forum rules however, I will be happy to provide solutions to vulnerabilities that I notice.) While my main focus is Network Security, I am a also Certified Usability Analyst. So feel free to shoot me questions on usability as well.

  • IT Security Rule #1 Proper malicious code is plausibly deniable.

  • Sounds great dude, join the group and maybe make post on the forums stating this. Fear not, I am not going condone deliberately malicious code. Ethical hacking is a respectable position, and you are right, from a testing perspective, 'Destructive' testing is always good. Unix scripting is pretty awesome, I worked with the Bash shell in my first year, was really different.

  • I have already joined. I am glad to hear your view on ethical hacking and malicious code. My Unix instructor went deep into the potential of scripting. He programmed the Space Shuttle computers before he was teaching.

  • Complete beast then. My tutor for operating systems (which encompassed a variety of scripting, and other languages) is a Forensics Computing guy, and aids the police with some of their inquiries, he's also one of the coolest teachers I have met.

  • That sounds like our Security professor. He works with the FBI. Before he started teaching he was in Network Security for GE.
