What is your main programming/development language?

Well, what is it?! Currently, my main language is C#... Pretty delicious, and is just like JAVA, so that's always helpful. Other languages include, Java, C, Perl, Bash, VB, PHP, HTML5, CSS3, MySQL,SQLite, etc Is it your hobby, job, or are you learning still? I am a Computer Science student going into Network Security. I know Java, C, enough PHP to secure existing code, Unix and batch scripting. I use Unix and batch scripts a lot in my job to automate tasks. I also write some of my own tools like network scanners, and my current project and intruder detection system. I am an Ethical Hacker so I also work on password crackers and other tools to test security where I work. Best way to know you are secure is to try to hack your system. (Note: I will not post code that could be used in a malicious way because it would be unethical and violates forum rules however, I will be happy to provide solutions to vulnerabilities that I notice.) While my main focus is Network Security, I am a also Certified Usability Analyst. So feel free to shoot me questions on usability as well.

I'm probably strongest on PHP, but mostly I just know a little bit of several things: C++, Java, Actionscript (VERY little there), HTML, CSS, Javascript, SQL, and VB. I'll check in now and then and see where I can pitch in.

          • I'm considering getting back into G-Code, but I understand the core concepts of programming, so imperative or declarative, "it's all good".

              •
is just like JAVA, so that's always helpful.
Some would consider that a bad thing. Anyway, I mostly use Ruby, Haskell, and Java (unfortunately). I've been using more C++ lately because I'll probably have to use it for my job.

As a freshman Com Sci major, I only just recently started coding and the two entry level classes I've taken were focused on Java. I believe my next class in the fall will introduce me to C++ though.

                            • Honestly? Java I'm mostly a web designer right now: So PHP, HTML5, Javascript, and the rest are my focus. I'd like to move into C++/C# though to develop games. Most of my game programming experience comes from Kismet (Unreal 3) and other in-editor scripters. But I'd like to branch out since programmers are pretty hard to find for mod projects.

                                    • I probably feel the most comfortable with C# and Python at the moment, or at least those are the languages with which I've done my biggest projects. I'm currently working on a Pygame in Python that will end up being a Bullet Hell Clone. Currently the little ship in the lower right follows your mouse, and the Pentagram Boss spins ominously, and the thing in the upper left just flashes random colors, an effect I plan to use on the bullets. I'm about half the way towards being able to create and destroy bullets and animate them on the screen, and after that I need only implement collisions and some UI and I have a working game that should prove to be very amusing to tinker with, coming up with increasingly elaborate bullet patterns and such.

                                      • Binary. It's the best. I don't like to use a middle-man and in this case that is a compiler.

                                        • I'm been primarily using vb.net for years. I use C# occasionally just so I don't get too rusty, but for what I do, vb is just more convenient.
