I think people get frustrated so much about the RNG nature of loot because of how the weapons function loot wise. In most other looter shooters a lot of the power of a gun is intrinsic to the item then you might be instead grinding for better stat affixes to min max your damage, crit chance/damgage or elemental procs. But in Destiny the entire drop of an item hinges on the 2 perk traits and if the 2 perks aren't good perks then the gun is effectively worthless unless its a higher level drop. Destiny also forces you to engage with everything that drops unlike other looters that let you just junk or ignore bad items, Destiny instead forces it into your inventory making you have to delete it or clogs up your postmaster possibly pushing out the items you might actually want. Origin traits are also the only noticeable thing that diffirentiates weapons from each other the scout rifle with Subjugation is more noticeably different than the scout rifle with HAKKE Breach Armaments. Bungie could powercreep loot a bit by putting more emphasis on the origin traits giving extra firepower intrinsically to loot so that perk traits aren't the only factor into the power of a weapon but I'm just spitballing.

  • That is a great observation...it's true about origin traits making or breaking a gun for it only takes a bit of added damage or functionality to make one origin trait turn a whole seasons worth of guns useless or meta... the way the seasonal artifact works can also artificially boost the value of weapons for a few weeks or drastically unbalance older guns and in worst the origin trait is so niche it's useless compared...

Sometimes the origin trait won't matter because another weapon has a stronger perk trait combo, but that is kind of the problem that the entire power of that weapon then hinges on its perk combo and if its not 'the' roll then its just an instant delete. As for origin traits I did testing of the Subjugation origin trait and its hands down the best origin trait in the game for primaries, it effectively gives you a free(and better!) explosive payload against red bars and small orange bars with it being a 12% increase in total damage per shot... best part? Its multiplicatively buffed by surges and frenzy(frenzy is the only damage perk that buffs the explosive damage) allowing you to almost do 50% more damage against trash mobs for simply having frenzy and surges active. There isn't much Bungie can do to top that origin trait except powercreep origin traits more.

  • Once they realize that they Will probably adjust it and it won't take long once the weapons oversaturate the player pool..and then no one will use it any more...one of the reasons I only use older more stable guns that are crafted or got multi perks
