No pilotable ships in Destiny.

After it was generally implied that ships would be flyable or at least feature in the game in some usable form, from the premise of 'Every Guardian gets their own ship', as well as a lot of concept art of ships in action, personal hangers etc, and the subsequent revelation that they are not flyable or usable in the game at all but merely a cut scene, i wanted to ask people, are you disappointed that there is no ship combat or exploration in Destiny? Or are you relieved it's a ground combat game only. Or are you satisfied with its current ommission, but would hope to see it bought in in an update or sequel?

Yeah. Ya know I've been wondering.. The whole getting new ships thing seems really pointless when you don't get to fly them. They've been boiled down to interchangeable loading screen. And I have to say. That was something I was excited for when I first started to learn about desteny. I did kinda forget about it though. As more info came out and I really put together what this game was. I did notice they showed less and less of the ships. I honesty can't decide if I'm disappointed about that or not. Doesn't seem to matter at this point. There's also No Man's Sky for that type of game play though. I could have swarn that game was called Nomad Sky when I first heard about it.

    • I'm really disappointed with the lack of use for the ship aside from travel cutscenes, but I can understand their struggle of trying to make flight gameplay that. Would not feel repetitive, or boring. I would have loved to see them go about battlefront style though, had they actually implemented ship gameplay. Otherwise I'm still really looking forward to this.

      • Flying is one of those things that would be cool to have in the game, but I don't think its a necessity.

      • I really think Bungie is just playing it safe right now. Once a demand has been put in place for features usually its met with supply to make profits so sooner or later we will see space combat and exploration most likely as a sequel.

      • As the feature currently stands, the ship is just a different skin that only shows up in the one repetitive loading screen, right? Personally, I don't even need to actually pilot the ship. At least let us go inside it.

        • For all you people out there look at the ships I swear they look like fighter ships we didn't even get off earth unless you got to the moon but it looks like there will be space battles somewhere along the line

          • I thought the game would be way more than the beta implies. What use is a ship if it's only for loading screens, better still what use are the skins you pay large amounts of glimmer for? If you buy a new sparrow you at least get a speed upgrade along with a colour change.

          • As much as I loved the banshee in the Halo games, Destiny just isn't made for air vehicles. The maps for the most part are designed for ground vehicles and infantry to have to stay on the ground, and follow paths made for them to reach their destination. Air vehicles would eliminate the adventure of those areas, and just fly right over everything. Not to mention, this would make the map feel a lot smaller. However, certain locations could support aircraft, and allow Guardians to have dogfights with the Fallen within the boundaries of specific areas. I would hope if Bungie were to do this they would make it realistic (For example: instead of "RETURN TO THE BATTLEFIELD...10...9...8.... They could make a storm that would cause ships to crash, or maybe some Vex antiaircraft guns. Anyways, that's just my input.

            • I use Mass Effect and SWTOR as perfect examples, exploration can still be done. Free roam in space would be cool, but I'm fine without it.
