During the Destiny Beta I usually had more than 2 friends that want to play with me at a given moment. This made things awkward when we wanted to do something like a mission as the maximum fireteam number was 3. This is somewhat understandable as the levels appear to be built for 3 players and if more were playing the mission at the same time it would make the mission too easy. However, it was a surprise to see that the Explore mode also has a 3 player fireteam limit despite there being no missions, besides the much smaller beacon missions, that needed to have an appropriate amount in a fireteam.
I was hoping that this could be changed to a larger number which is clearly possible as Crucible fireteams could have up to 6 players in the Beta. Seeing as the Explore mode doesn't need to have a balanced amount of players doing the same thing as there are no grander scaled missions so it would probably be an improvement to have more players in a fireteam for Explore mode as it would give people with more than 2 friends an opportunity to meet up to do something together in-game.

Edited by Darrus Ralier: 8/3/2014 6:44:44 PMI put the same comment on a thread similar to this. I don't get why we can't have 6 in Explore mode. So...yeah,I agree with you.

Well then you would come across the problem of having to kick someone out when going from explore to missions

Party chat

Need larger fire team size for sure

The public areas have to be "balanced' so that you don't create situations where solo players can no longer play the game. Six good players were ROUTINELY enough to sweep The Divide clear of enemies, down to the last body...and that wasn't even with them acting as a coordinated team. If you allowed larger FT without adjusting either the enemy difficulty, or their spawning rate...then a large FT would quickly run out of things to shoot at..and would be unhappy. Adjust them upwards to make the large FTs happy...and you wind up with a situation that is unplayable for a solo player...because he winds up always taking simultanous fire from multiple groups of enemies. That happened quite a bit in the intial explore area in Old Russia if you played as a solo. Even at the baseline settings, if you took out the enemies near the jump ship crash site...then moved on to the large group coming up form underground, you would often wind up getting caught between taking fire from that group... ...and taking fire from respawns at the crash site you just cleared. Or in The Divide, You'd find yourself trying to take out the Fallen from the drop ships..while taking sniper fire from the roofs as well. When that happens only once in awhile, its an annoyance. But you are asking for conditions where it would happen basically all the time to any solo player.

Started a new topic: Larger Fireteams for Explore Poll(2 Replies))

Edited by CommDover: 7/30/2014 1:24:12 AMI think the amount of people in general should be raised to six across all game modes. Three people is not really a Fireteam six on the other hand, can be called a Fireteam. Besides it would give people the ability to fight with the same people they fight in the crucible or on raids with.

You're lucky to have as many friends. The only friends i have is my mother and right hand...
-
Fire Teams of 6! or at least 6 for PS4 and XB1 if 360 and PS3 cant handle it.
-
I agree with this bit must say the missions in the beta were to easy and I ran all but the devils lair solo without any problems. Actually ran devils lair w III h just one other actively working and completed it fairly quick and easy.
-
I would love to see the fireteam on explore only be raised to 6, since going from crucible to just roaming around in explore and have fun also ment splitting the gang up...and making it hard to get together with my friends just for fun...but atm I can also see both sides...but if possible I would want 6 on explore mode :)
-
The only problem with that is possibly having to up the public events with more enemies if more fire teams joined in, unless you restrict such events to a single team if the team is large enough, but then the public event may no longer be considered truly public.
-
If you want to run into random guardians, have a small fire team. What about raising the difficulty of the enemies in explore for people with unusually high fire teams?
-
8 or 10 in a fireteam might be good for those hard raids..
-
For explore? That might prevent you from running into other random guardians, but it would probably work...
-
I like this idea! I thought the same out in the wastes. A team of up to six should be able to party up in the explore mission. At least in the chat. We could go our own way and if a public event pops. We can call out.

I agree if destiny is "better with friends" why can I only play with 2 of my friends? We shouldn't be penalized for wanting to jump between pvp(6 man fireteam) and pve(3 man fireteam) always having to decide who gets left out from each mission. Also idk if it was for balance or just a beta bug, but in pvp there were a few times my clan would be put on separate teams even though we were all in a fire team. This shouldn't happen... Ever.

Why not sounds good. I'm in

If you can meet up with lots of random players duing explore mode, surely it would be possible to have more than 3 players in an explore mode fireteam. I hope this feature will be added in the full game but im not that confident to be completely honest. A game such as Destiny (large-scale, social-based, RPGFPS) shouldn't force friends to split up and play in smaller groups. It just seems like an odd design choice as I pictured exploring the game with a large group of friends like in MMO's. I know the game isn't trying to be an MMO but it isn't an MMO exclusive feature.

Answer is still no

This is quite necessary, because what harm would it do to increase the fireteam for explore?
