While it does, there is a limit. All live service games have a sense of FOMO, they limit the FOMO when the game has a diverse player-base, because they want to be considerate of people’s time in order to maintain a good dev-player relationship. Some devs can he more demanding in their FOMO if they’re confident in the response of their player-base.
Bungie and Destiny have always had a more demanding FOMO vibe, whether its through a timegate or through meta. Their issue is, they’ve never eased off how much FOMO they’re demanding, and while the game bleeds players and content drops in quality/quantity, players get a bad taste in their mouth.
This creates the odd community that Destiny has, creating the infamous feeling that its players hate the game yet can’t put it down.
Well, considering that seasons are going to be free from now on, and rather than adding meaningless activities that are going to be later removed and instead be working on implementing core activities like “into the light” - and expanding upon what the game has.
I think some of your concerns about FOMO will be addressed
