Lack of leadership with Destiny

I do not believe that the people making decisions at Bungie are doing a good job. They should have been able to deliver an excellent Trials experience, especially considering that it was largely lifted striaght from D1. It has fallen flat on its face. The lack of innovation in PvE has been a mounting concern for longer than I -blam!- remember. The remixed horde-mode light activities, the uninspired boss mechanics, the enemy layouts that are infuriating, not challenging. The use of bounties as a subsitute for content. Playing Destiny is like having a second job. There is no leadership. The franchise lacks direction. Rather than create something with its own identity, they are aiming for a bastardized mix of who-knows-what games (Halo, WoW, Warframe, etc?). Destiny doesn't seem as though it is made to be enjoyed, but rather to maximize revenue by appealing to some theoretical audience. What Bungie is doing is not working. It hasn't been working. Many of us keep pumping money into the game hoping that one day the studio will figure it out. They aren't going to, not at this rate. I don't know what happened to cause so many to leave, from Josh Hamrick to Joseph Staten to Jamie Griesemer. I do know that a company that got out of the clutches of an "evil empire" only to get in bed with the devil isn't making good decisions. The leadership needs to change. You are killing the franchise, and driving away your fans. Take a long, hard look in the mirror and figure it out before it's too late. Edit: The spoiler will contain a list of what I find to be the most glaring issues. This is in response to those saying that suggestions are more constructive than just criticism. While I agree, it is no more our job to point of what SHOULD be happening than it is our job to spend time creating a proof of people cheating. It is Bungies job, it is what we pay them for.
In no particular order, and just what I remember off the top of my head after 5 1/2 years of the franchise. -I do not believe that a game should be made to appeal to the largest possible audience, like it is a Disney movie or theme park. Make what started as a dark, gritty sci-fi epic INTO a dark, gritty sci-fi epic. Challenge us with interesting concepts that question our perspectives. Bungie has a history of doing this. -Make it known to the player base what the future is. A new engine for new platforms culminating in Destiny 3, or staying with the current iteration for the forseeable future. Allocate resources accordingly. Basically, if Destiny 3 is coming, I belive it is in everyones best interest to finish the current seasonal model, then stop all development on D2. Focus all Destiny workload on making a new, powerful platform. -New platform including, but not limited to a better server solution. Built to run smooth across all platforms as the game inevitably grows. Built to accomodate current and future visions of innovation. One such example centers on the making massive 50-100 guardian battles against actual enemy armies. The game cries out for this, yet never even considers doing it. Build the engine to handle scales this size and bigger. -Slower pace of content, with richer, more engaging releases. Thoroughly bug tested, as well as play tested on a scale large enough to inform whether new activities are fun to the player base. -Hard line on supporting existing content rather than dismissing glaring problems in favor of adding new, inconsequential content. The lore of Destiny is deep and rich. Put it to better use. And when something inevitably does prove broken, prioritize fixes. This means maintaining a robust live team. This team would be tasked with injecting new, exciting things into the game when they are not loaded with a heavy repair schedule in order to justify the expense. -God-tier loot for those that reach the peak. If these pieces of equipment prove too controvsial, limit their use to certain activities. For example, I believe auto rifles to be a bit too strong currently. Many people do not want them nerfed. As an alternate solution, revert previous nerfs to Luna and Not Forgotten, Recluse, etc. Limit them to Competitive and Trials, not available in other playlists. This maintains their value, provides different strong playstyles, and allows people to use their favorite gear. I will stop here, by pointing out some issues I have had with Destiny that I feel were never properly addressed. 3 new Nightfalls with Shadowkeep, none with attached loot. Regular strikes not having loot. The expectation for us to have fun playing the same content over and over again for years. No good storage solution for us hoarders. Modes like Gambit being left in a subpar state for far too long. Leaving obviously strong gear too strong for too long. The list goes on. Hopefully this will be considered more constructive, though again, while I do love Destiny (as painful as that is), I PAY for the game. I am not on payroll and this is not my job. I cannot help but see what I see, and maintain hope that this too shall pass. Bad relationships have to end eventually though, and this has been a rough one.
Edit: I regret not being clear about this from the start. I am NOT calling for anyone to lose their job. None of my criticisms should be taken as a personal attack on anyone, as I wish no one ill will. That doesn't mean I can support having the wrong people in positions of power. I have worked in places where that happens, and it ends up being a disaster for employees and customers alike. Just because someone isn't good at their current job does NOT mean they are no good. I just believe that Bungie has lost its way. It has happened over a long period due to many factors. I just want to see them come back around. Edit: In a continuing attempt to get to the truth of the matter, I have done some digging. I offer up this material for your consideration. I believe these two videos, watched in sequence, help to give a feel of the real situation. The first is an interview with Joe Staten before Destiny launched. He appears to be an excited employee who looks forward to delivering something he is proud of. The second deals with the fallout from Marty O'Donnell leaving. It draws conclusions about Marty and Joe Staten. View if interested, use your own judgement and draw your own conclusions. • Destiny 2 has long since quit being a looter shooter/ RPG/ MMO and has become console version of a Mobile cash scam game. The game is not enjoyable anymore and the only focus Bungie seems to have is making sure Eververse has something shiny for the whales to buy. There are glaring issues these days and all they try to do is slap a new coat of paint on it and call it good.

        • Idk. It just might have settled now like a death cloak. Siphering down to the masses. Official forums. Community managers working from home... You'd think there's be time but not one comment from bungie on any threads. It's been this way for a long time and constantly getting worse.

You’re spot on. This game, despite it still being a decent one, totally lacks the direction it so desperately needs. My big focus is eververse. They have made this game reliant on eververse for money. They make: 1) exotic ships 2) legendary ships 3) legendary emotes 4) exotic emotes 5) rare emotes (interestingly enough) 6) exotic armor ornaments for all 3 classes 7) exotic weapon ornaments 8) legendary armor ornaments for all 3 classes 9) shaders 10) legendary sparrows 11) exotic sparrows 12) ghost projections 13) transmat effects 14) legendary weapon ornaments 15) legendary ghost shells 16) exotic ghost shells This happens at a minimum of twice a season this stuff gets refreshed. The season itself and any seasonal event. Other vendors still haven’t been updated in ages. In D1 we had vendor refreshes. Now the only refreshes we get for those vendors are emblems. Not even a ritual weapon which is criminally lazy itself. That’s me just talking about vendors. I could go on and on for hours how this game lacks direction in almost every aspect

              • I did a 3 part side quest in Borderlands 3 today that actually moved me emotionally, they actually put effort and thought into the writing in that game, and at the end of it I was rewarded with a unique legendary weapon. I cannot understand for the life of me why these adventures on each planet dont follow that format.

                • To be honest , if the road stays the same its all down hill...... Whatever they offer in September needs to wow and I don't mean WoW screw that game....... On a different note I'm looking forward to what 343 has to offer at the end of the year they hit some huge potholes in the past but hey I've given bungie 5+ years..... If the STORY (you notice that bungie some fans like story) is good I'm in most of them were pre split bungie employees I think , could be wrong can't remember getting older 😁 and remember this is just my opinion not everyone's....

I would also like to leave a record of other things I find infuriating. -constantly joining strikes/crucible in progress -guardians bounce off of surfaces like they are made of rubber. If I am pushing forward as I approach a wall, it's because I want to mantle it, not bounce off -field-of-view on console is horrible. Trying to maintain a decent level of situational awareness is very difficult -guardians constantly getting snagged on the environment. From being caught on a wall bumpout you can't see because of horrible FOV, to getting caught on pebbles, to not being able to walk up the left set of stairs in the Fanatic strike. -TAKE OUT THE RANK UP SPLASH SCREEN IN CRUCIBLE AND GAMBIT!!! -swords cannot attack immediately after swapping. Attack comes out as melee. -often cannot rally to public event flag at Seraph Towers public event -MAJOR PROBLEM--sighting a target only to have another target cross over the first, causing your reticle to follow the new target because of reticle stickiness. This is terrible! Please change the way this works. I'm sure there are more I am forgetting, I will add them as I remember

                      • You talk about bounties being used as a substitute for real content. - I could not agree more. When you think of seasonal content, you must consider that it all or mostly goes away, leaving no lasting content for new players to work through as they play through the expansion. What story line is there for for this expansion? If you are a new player 3 months form now, you not only have missed the season reasons for doing what we are doing but have no understanding of why anything is the way it is. There is no campaign on the moon to play through that is added to with the change of seasons. Nothing like the red war. Bungie is seriously dropping the ball, and the leaders are making short term decisions. They are fast and easy to implement, but add little lasting impact to the destiny story nor leave anything in game for future players to work through.

I said this in a different thread but it still applies here... hell, it applies to a lot of the top trending threads. Bungie probably doesn't care and I use probably loosely because I honestly don't know... but when you have die hard fans still playing and supporting shitty decisions nothing will change. You can't complain about the shitty service and keep showing up because the numbers tell Bungie people are content. Only when the numbers tank because people are fed up and voting with their playtime is when Bungie might decide to take action. Until then, this is the best you get -- the bare minimum and Bungie working from home isn't helping. Oh, and don't forget about the people who have a crush on Tess... she's like a digital stripper because so many people are just throwing money at her. What happened? Tess is the only part of the game that always works and gets a refresh... Hmm... I wonder why?

                          • LIFE TIP: When things don't make sense, ALWAYS follow the money. In this case.... investor $$$ The very best thing to do if you don't like the game is to NOT log-on. If their numbers go down, they will be forced to change things or lose a lot of money.

                            • Been saying this for a very long time. Bungie had all the time, two previous iterations of trials to learn from, they even said they wanted to take their time to get it right. Within the first week it falls flat on its face. Maybe now the fanboys can see what a mess bungie has become. I used trials as an example because it’s recent but there are so many more examples to shine a light on.
