Are we being punished for not buying the DLC?

So it's now the second week where the Nightfall and Heroic have been DLC exclusive; locking out all those who don't have it. And to be honest, i'm already sick of it. Every tuesday, I, and i'm sure a lot of people, look forward to complete the Nightfall and everything that's included in the weekly reset. But apparently we've been denied of that excitement once again. It's like we're being punished for not handing our money over for On-Disk DLC. It's not fair. I refuse to pay £20 to people who are more and more seemingly to be money grabbing cheats. I used to love Bungie and Destiny, but that love is rapidly fading away. I'm not crying, just expressing my opinions and feelings. Does anybody else feel this way? Edit: *Got this to trending. Woo!* Anyway, reading the comments, most people are saying that I should just buy the DLC judging by how many hours i've played. (A lot). In some respects, I agree with this. As I said, the thing holding me back is that part of the DLC is already on the disk. And the obvious question that follows is "Why would I pay for something I already own?". For those of you who are saying it's just gone Xmas, go buy it. After paying off a small debt, I literally don't have a pound to spare. However, this has given me time to think and reflect, and it's sort of swaying my decision. Question is, if I wanted to buy it, I couldn't until I find a Job. One more thing, what's with all the hostility? God damn, i've seen better manners and behavior in a children's party. Chill guys, no need to get so angry.

  • Anyone who goes by the logic of " it's already on the disk, why should I have to pay for it" are missing the point. The game designers decide how much content they want to sell for whatever price. If you made a painting with one color and wanted to sell it for $1000 dollars than that's your god given right as an American citizen (sorry everyone else). Whether or not anyone will actually buy it goes into its value to the consumer. If Bungie feels that the game they made is worth $60 then that's their right. Its your right to not buy it.

    • I don't think there is much of a vase to be made, but it is a lame move by Bungie. When you introduce a service (a special rotation) and make that a staple of the game - so much that it's almost required to get some of the best gear in the game, you shouldn't really take that away from week to week. Bungie could easily make it so non DLC owners get a vanilla version of each weekly or daily, on days and weeks where DLC is spotlighted, but they won't because t drives DLC sales

    • cry me more tears gypsy boy. I mean, no one is forcing you. but do you really think that bungie should not put it in the rotation for the DLC owners not to play? and that bullshit about second week in a row, they have you nexus last week. now quit your crying cos I think you've capped at 200.

No, you are being excluded because you are not paying to keep the game up to date. Is this a good business practice being implemented by Bungie? Was your original $60 investment worth it to you ... especially considering that you've now lost some of your original accessibility? I guess these are questions you'll need to consider the next time you purchase a Bungie product. In the end, though, no you are not being punished. You are purely the "victim" of a business model Bungie is trying out (one which may or may not bite them in the @$$).

    • To be honest, I can see Bungie's side of it from a "business" perspective. They have a "new" product, and want it to get as much exposure as possible. I just wish they'd have been more honest before TDB was released and simply SAID they're going to push the new content and that would include the weekly strike rotations, instead of "taking bows" in advance proclaiming that 'no guardian will be left behind post DLC' including the ones that won't have purchased TDB...only to put the heroic/nightfalls behind the DLC wall the first week of release.

    • I agree even though I bought it already. They burned my bridge for Destiny 2 and up though. I won't support this type of thing. Also the last time I pre order anything. I can thank them for that one actually.

    • It scares me the mentality of some people on here. Sure thing it is not a lot of money, but do you guys see what you're allowing publishers to do here? I bought the DLC because I enjoy the game, but there is no way that it is acceptable to lock out game features for those with the base game. And before you open your mouth, yes, nightfall is a basic game feature. All they could have done is to provide 2 separate playlists. Heck, give the DLC owners 2 nightfall strikes! Reward us for paying you! In the meantime, keep the standard rotation as is. Same goes with removing the engram from Tiger strikes... If the gaming continues to accept throwing money at a game then it won't be too long before you're FORCED to pay in order to continue playing a game you paid for.

I prepaid for the dlc, so I've been enjoying the new content...the little of it there is. That said, I do think it's bad form for Bungie to make the weekly "event" of Nightfall, where the loot table actually doesn't suck too bad, unplayable for those who bought the base game but not the dlc. It's a strong arm tactic, at the very least, to get people to shell out more money. I wouldn't have an issue with it if the Nightfalls weren't set up as the big, weekly thing to do for the more casual, non-raider (who presumably bought the dlc, since the new raid is really the only new content, aside from a couple pvp maps). I do have sympathy for those left behind. If I was broke or hadn't already paid for the content, I am quite sure I would quit the game. I don't like being strong armed and think the content should be good enough to sell itself. /my $.02.

      • This conspiracy theory going around that the content was already on the disk is pure myth. It was in fact included within the 2gb+ update that was released a few weeks back. The purchase of the dlc simply gave you access to those areas.

        • Then don't play that game. Plain and simple. If you do not want to pay for extra content, then you are not entitled to play it. I really don't understand why you people think you should be able to play content that you did not pay for.

        • I think it is kind of bullshit they already made it the dlc weekly again. I thought it would follow the rotation they had. I have the dlc so its whatever. Face it people. This is the future of gaming. They don't want to set the game prices too high but they will cut games up for you while they make the next. It sucks but its here to stay. Its not like anyone will take a stand against it.

        • Another entitled wah wah wah post. Do some people seriously expect bungie to run a separate playlist for every iteration of destiny and its subsequent dlc's. IE one for vanilla destiny one for those who have tdb one for those who have the house of wolves but not tdb one for those who have both etc. etc!!?

          • Not only are you denied a part of the game you paid for but not being able to do the Nightfall slows progression by blocking access to the XP boost. This is outright blackmail. I already bought the season pass but I will never buy another game by Bungie or Activision.

          • Dude I know exactly how you feel on the DLC stand. I was the same thinking why should I buy DLC when I already own the damn thing. Finally came round to buying the Season pass and never really looked back. I love Destiny and with the DLC i'll be getting, I'll be able to love Destiny even more. Hope you finally come round too because you are missing out.

          • I felt the same way, until I agreed to buy it on the condition that Xur sell No Land Beyond (I wanted it bad, unaware of how it would perform, I still love and use it though). I am a man of my word, so I bought the DLC and it isn't terrible, but it's not amazing either. if you have friends to raid with, then I would recommend it, but otherwise, there's nothing amazing there.

          • I don't get people who buy these games and then complain about not being able to continue playing all content. You knew there was going to be dlc. You knew it was going to involve additional funds to purchase and play the dlc. The dlc is a whopping $30, not like it's going to break the bank? Cough up or quit complaining.

            •
God damn, i've seen better manners and behavior in a children's party.
Lol, wtf do you think this website is???? Anyway, although I do agree with you entirely, I can understand why Bungie did this. Many people complain about a lack of variety in Destiny, and by having more strikes in the pool for potential weeklies and nightfalls, Bungie are at least addressing this. Another thing is that if Bungie decided not to put new strikes into the pool for weeklies and nightfalls, players like me, who spend most of their time doing nightfalls weeklies, and patrols, would barely ever see the DLC content. This would be bad for bungie because, if people payed for a DLC and hardly ever experienced what they payed for, they wouldn't buy the next DLC, I know I wouldn't, and that would deprive Bungie of what they want most dearly, all ur monies. The flipside of this is that by including the new strikes as nightfalls, they are providing an incentive to buy the DLC. Bungie is a business, not your friend.

            • You realize that it's not random and Omnigul will show up again at a later date? You should probably just stop playing, or play the base game you bought and miss out one week.

            • Bungie/Activision is setting a dangerous precedent by locking end game content, and this is exactly why I refuse to buy the DLC. What other game before Destiny locked previously accessible content after DLC was released? It's a -blam!-ing joke, and frankly if gamers don't say anything about this business model, future publishers will certainly follow suit. If they want Nightfall with DLC strikes then there should be a separate playlist, just like with the Crucible DLC maps.

              • I agree in principle. Non DLC players should not be penalised every other week or day in the case of the dailies that we're also locked out of. Bungie - sort it out 😠 I refuse to buy DLC purely from a moral standpoint. Used to be that DLC added to the game without detracting from main story etc this DLC actually takes away from what we've bought and been used to having. Used to be that we'd buy a game full stop. Then we'd play that and buy another. Now, companies release a game, add in app purchases and then DLC etc. used to be I could input a key combo for infinite energy or money etc now I have to pay for fake money for fake money with real money (gta I'm looking at you!) the fun has been taken out of gaming. What's most frustrating is people's roll over and take it attitude of 'stop moaning, just buy it' which seemingly justifies the money grabbing attitude of the game companies business models. DLC should be boycotted to send a message. That is my stance - never have bought DLC, never will.
