Are we being punished for not buying the DLC?

So it's now the second week where the Nightfall and Heroic have been DLC exclusive; locking out all those who don't have it. And to be honest, i'm already sick of it. Every tuesday, I, and i'm sure a lot of people, look forward to complete the Nightfall and everything that's included in the weekly reset. But apparently we've been denied of that excitement once again. It's like we're being punished for not handing our money over for On-Disk DLC. It's not fair. I refuse to pay £20 to people who are more and more seemingly to be money grabbing cheats. I used to love Bungie and Destiny, but that love is rapidly fading away. I'm not crying, just expressing my opinions and feelings. Does anybody else feel this way? Edit: *Got this to trending. Woo!* Anyway, reading the comments, most people are saying that I should just buy the DLC judging by how many hours i've played. (A lot). In some respects, I agree with this. As I said, the thing holding me back is that part of the DLC is already on the disk. And the obvious question that follows is "Why would I pay for something I already own?". For those of you who are saying it's just gone Xmas, go buy it. After paying off a small debt, I literally don't have a pound to spare. However, this has given me time to think and reflect, and it's sort of swaying my decision. Question is, if I wanted to buy it, I couldn't until I find a Job. One more thing, what's with all the hostility? God damn, i've seen better manners and behavior in a children's party. Chill guys, no need to get so angry.

  • They don't include PlayStation exclusive strikes in the rotation so why would they include dlc exclusives unless it was to give a big "fvck you" to those who can't or won't buy the dlc? If I hadn't already bought the season pass I'd refuse to spend any more money on this game as an act of principle simply because of this petty act of spite by Bungie/Activision.

  • I hope that players are punished for not buying the dlc. Otherwise those who spent money would be punished. Easy concept.

  • I agree I think it's BS that content that was fully accessible until the time of release of the new DLC is now locked to people who have bought said DLC. My understanding of new DLC was that it was new and in addition to the original content released on the base version of the game. To now make people pay for this seems like highway robbery (some would say smart business ) . I think the DLC should have only been for extra content ...perhaps have a different nightfall or weekly which was specific to the DLC had extra rewards or something? I logged on this morning excited to do the nightfall as I only did last week's yesterday and then I seen this plus the weekly was locked out and I was not happy.. I will no doubt end up buying the DLC especisly as I have some holidays now and have time to play it but I still don't agree with how it had been done. In saying that I am just a lowly gamer and I am sure the execs don't care what I think as they know a lot of gamers will shell out the money for the DLC

  • I actually agree with you. I bought the DLC and have no regrets doing it. But having the dlc content as some of the only end game content in the game is ridiculous. But in saying that it's hard to take it out because then it'd never get played /: Maybe two different rotations?

  • Tell you what....seems you have invested a bunch of time in this game and I can feel your frustration. I bought the season pass, so I am covered. If you really want the DLC and can get past the whole "not owning it out of principle" issue, I will buy TDB for you. I love this game and the GOOD people I have run into to help me through different aspects of the game. The only things I ask is that you pay it forward somehow once you get stable with a job. Been there done that and it sucks being unemployed. Lol. And that you help me run a nightfall or raid sometime. Message me and let's get this figured out. 👍

    • Just buy the dlc or trade in destiny. The more dlc content comes out, the more likely things will be locked from non dlc owners.

    • As some one who also doesn't have the DLC I agree that it sucks. My main reason for not buying the DLC is I don't have a full time raid group to run with and let's be honest that's what your buying the DLC for. Getting locked out of something that I had access to from day one when I spent my hard earned $60 on is BS. Bungie could have made the effort to make a DLC area so that way those non-dlc people don't get screwed over but I have a feeling Activision had a helping hand in having Bungie not do that. But I have also put many many hours into this game as well and still enjoy playing it, so maybe if the DLC is $10 then I'll bite but until then I'll just have to deal with being locked out from time to time.
And the obvious question that follows is "Why would I pay for something I already own?"
LIMITED USE LICENSE: Bungie grants you the non-exclusive, personal, non-transferable, limited right and license to install and use one copy of this Program solely for your non-commercial use. All rights not specifically granted are reserved by Bungie. The Program is licensed, not sold, for your use. Your license confers no title or ownership in this Program, and should not be construed as a sale of any rights in this Program. This Agreement shall also apply to patches or updates you may obtain for the Program, unless that patch or update is accompanied by additional terms as provided in the section regarding “Changes to the Agreement” below . Not going to be rude, just pointing out the sad truth, you own nothing. You were sold a license to install and use whatever Bungie allows you to use. They retain the right to change content, give and take, as they please. You were asked to agree to these terms when you purchased and installed the product, they assume you read and understood the terms. They are in no way obligated to allow you to use all of the content on the disk and can take away the content at anytime, unfortunately. I want things for free as well, but I can't complain about something I agreed to.

        • The worst is people tell me "on realease day i just hatld to download 100kb, thats the prove it all was already on the disc" I for myself knew weeks before the release that ive downloaded the conten of the dlc, cause the patchnotes of the 2gb update (on ps3) told me so, why other people ignore the fact, that there was a big update with the dlc content?

          •
As I said, the thing holding me back is that part of the DLC is already on the disk
This is by far the most retarded argument i have ever heard. Welcome to modern gaming where every game that gets released has portions of the dlc on it! This isn't a new thing its been like this for a while. If this really is such a bother to you then just sell your console and find a different hobby because clearly you can't handle this. Your argument is also flawed because you dont own destiny all you did when you bought your copy is essentially you bought the right to access the game.

I think the reason the DLC strike was selected this week was to tempt new players to buy the DLC. They are impressionable right now.

            • Every time a DLC strike is selected as the weekly Bungie should put in two strike playlists. One accessible for DLC owners & one for non DLC owners. A player can only play the selected Heroic/Nightfall once. So no two-sies for DLC owners. This is about as complicated as programming Xur or Iron Banner to appear, i.e. it could be done. It is not fair to lock content that was included in the original game (content rightfully accessible for all who bought the game) behind a retroactively placed pay wall. Wasn't fair the first time this was done. Isn't fair now. I own TDB DLC but I will always think this is unfair for non-DLC players because it is robbing them of a feature that was accessible in the original game. Every time they do this I feel like they owe those players a $10 /£10/€10 (see what I did there Activision) refund for randomly taking away access to content that the game was originally sold with.

            • The strikes are in rotation. Just wait till the next strike comes out, dawg. Then that's another week. But, what can you do.

            • Yes!. I believe you are! If psn exclusive strikes cannot become nightfalls, then it doesn't make any sense for dlc strikes to become nightfalls. I don't think there is anything you can do about it. Pretty sure Bungie thought of this and because their a business and businesses are all about making money. Whether you become an ass hole or not. And obviously they decided to go with it... If you don't have the dlc, don't bother buying it just for a nightfall

            • Imo the reason "i paid for it its ob the disc i own it" is still stupid. Obviously u dont own it and other people paid for it too. Just the areas are on the disc, nothing else and there was an update bringing the content. U played the game so many hours, dont u think you could support the developers for more content? Dont u think your 60 bucks already paid off? If u dont think they did after hundrets of hours played, than its your problem. Im not rich but i could afford it and dont tell me you cant, if so you would have other problems than complaining about a game.

            • The worst part about it is that they are locking you out of crap that is already on disc. Just reskinned for the cost of $20.

              • Anyone who goes by the logic of " it's already on the disk, why should I have to pay for it" are missing the point. The game designers decide how much content they want to sell for whatever price. If you made a painting with one color and wanted to sell it for $1000 dollars than that's your god given right as an American citizen (sorry everyone else). Whether or not anyone will actually buy it goes into its value to the consumer. If Bungie feels that the game they made is worth $60 then that's their right. Its your right to not buy it.
