Want to complain about the piss poor loot pool? Valid
Want to complain about buggy ass raids? Legitimate
Want to complain about the shitty reward "knock out" systems? Please do.
Want to complain that there hasn't been any decently looking weapons or gears lately? I'm on board.
But complaining about something that each one of us had an insignificant amount of contribution towards. (FYI, that's how it works. Everyone puts some effort in and the community as a whole gets rewarded.)
For those of you complaining like you wasted so much time, thank you for putting yours and probably some of other peoples share of the contributions in. But, I have to ask why?
Now, I know why I participated. I had sunset materials to sell for glimmer and extra bounties to grind for (abysmal amounts of) bright dust. But if you busted your ass over your oven cooking for so much time that would warrant the amount of complaining about it being a "waste of time". Then why?
1- Bungie has NEVER given any of us any reason to believe that these 'holiday' events give us anything worth 'busting our asses for'.
2- You all constantly complain about the fact that these events are never worth participating in.
3- You still participate in them hoping that they'll be worth something even though 1 and 2.
Just a disclaimer, because I know everyone's gonna jump down my throat.
I understand that people "complain because we want the game to be good". But for as many people that say they're sick of being a hamster on a wheel, complaining about bungie's incompetence (regarding holiday events), and then still run on that wheel.
All the stuff I listed at the top are valid complaints. Anyone who's been playing this game for 6 years now and still expects these holiday events to reward anything super unique.... you're doing this to yourself.
It sucks that Bungie's this way, but how many times do you have to get shot in the chest before you realize that maybe you should stop walking through the door thinking "maybe this time I won't get shot".
Edit: The tl;dr is that Bungie may never change, but they have no incentive to change if everyone keeps running the hamster wheel.

I don't like that they made it sound like it'd be a new exotic or something remotely unique. Not just another Aeon safe to store shards in.
-
I just like cookies too much so it was win win

If the Dawning didn't give people what they wanted, people will complain. If the Dawning gave a cool new Exotic, people would complain it wasn't obtainable from in game content. If they introduce cool new Exotics in endgame content, people will complain they are too hard to obtain. If they give out easy Exotics, people will complain there wasn't a cool quest. If they make a cool Exotic quest, people will complain it was not long enough. People, especially the braindead individuals on the forums, will constantly complain about everything. There are valid criticisms to make, but the majority of people are here just to complain.

I found it kinda nice that I didn't have to personally grind every inch of the way for the rewards, especially the ship- which was pretty good looking for a change, an original design and not just a retool of the same boat with a couple fins added or at a different angle. For the little amount of time I put in, I got an exotic out of it and quite a lot of decent machine guns. The fusion rifle is meh, but I've never been a fan of those anyway. And one SMG with firefly on it, that's pretty nice. I've got that perk on so many guns now. I love making heads asplode.

They're the same people that moan about the Christmas present they opened that wasn't a PS5 or the latest IPhone, but was a deodorant set from Grandma who is struggling on a pension. Entitled is what a lot call them. I was always greatful for anything I got an still am. I know the world doesn't revolve around me.

Destiny community is never happy. They’ll complain about anything.
-
I always enjoy these “free” events. I get free rewards, materials, and something different to do.😊
-
I dont understand why people are complaining either. You passively gained all the materials you needed. If you chose to sit and farm stuff by sitting in the shattered throne thrall area or farming lost sectors in anything like that then that's on you. Bungie didn't make you do that. I took the triumphs and individual quest as an indication of how much "effort" needs to be put in per player and completed the quest in the first week and all the triumphs by the middle of the second week.

2 Repliesthe people that are complaining aren't doing so because they want the game to be better. they do it because it's popular to parrot each other with tons of posts. they do it because they are delusional as to what an in game reward is, (no one came to their house and gave them a full body massage, paid their bills, and threw in a few items in game as well.) it wouldn't matter what the reward was, people complain regardless.

It was a free event that we were promised nothing in, made during a pandemic at home AND was obviously not going to be grand... And people still complained. Welcome to destiny, may I take your bags?

Edited by Swiftlock: 1/3/2021 1:34:56 PMThere's one big thing you're missing. Bungie straight up said that one function of Eververse was to help fund bigger, better in-game events. This was most certainly NOT a bigger nor better in-game event. It was the same thing we had before, doing the same bounties in the same core activities - with no new PvP maps, no new gambit maps, and losing multiple legacy strikes in favor of 1 brand new strike. It's a bad look all around. Bungie is trying to pull the wool over your eyes by stripping down the game and putting in minimal effort while still making bank off microtransactions - and this Dawning event has been the epitome of that. THAT is why people are complaining. Understandably so.
-
I think complaining about the reward that was basically free is smol brain. Complaining about game play loop surrounding the event is fair though. Making cookies is a brain numbing activity. If its gonna be that way at least make it more streamlined so you aren't traveling from destination to destination every couple of minutes. Don't even get me started on getting a riven checkpoint for one cookie. Let me leave it on that -blam!- door step and walk away without ever stepping in.

2 RepliesI wanted us to fail. I really did.
-
Everything said I totally agree with but why do you care? Let them complain, who cares. Right or am i right
Im right 😝
-
1 ReplyDumb argument. Saying that "since the event has always been unrewarding means we shouldn't continue to complain about it" is stupid. Great way to NEVER have anything improve.
-
2 RepliesI will complain about them recycling the same boring and uninteresting event over and over. At least the festival of the cost brings a revamped area and game-mode every year. This one just wants us to make food that we give to npcs
-
You literally pointed out a couple reasons why people were complaining lol

11 RepliesI don't know what you consider minimal effort but I put in some 30+ hours doing event things.
-
I got a low stat 58 exotic arms and a older season ghost shell......so yea it was a waste of time.
-
You’re a fan boy. Stop defend h their laziness. You’re only enabling them to give us less and less...
-
As someone that spent all my materials making burnt edge transits, I'm underwhelmed by the unrewarding event. That being said, I only pushed buttons and ended up getting a virtual golf ball, so honestly, I don't really care.
-
During Season of Dawn, I donated 2M Fractaline and only got a cutscene, my thought at the time was "meh, whatever". During this season, some people literally made like 20 cookies and lost their minds when they didn't get Gjallarhorn. People need to stop over-hyping their expectations, nothing suggested we were getting a new exotic. Take your free Exotic and Shard and quit whining.
-
I think a lot of complaints stemmed from Bungie stating (something similar to) the rewards being something we wouldn’t want to miss out on. Personally, I had low expectations and they were met. However a lot of people bought into the message and got their hopes up. I guess they should consider it a lesson for next time.
