Here are a few changes I'd make that would make me consider ever putting a sword on.
1) Only matching damage types pierce your shield. All other damage is negated, but will cost slightly more energy per block.
2) Increase PvE damage by 100%. The risk/reward for swords isn't worth it currently because you have to be on top of an enemy to damage them. Doubling their damage will make them worth using.
3) Increase heavy attack animation speed. The heavy attack should be the best option for single target damage and it shouldn't be close to light attack dps.
4) Lightweight frames intrinsically have Assassin's Blade. Adaptive frames intrinsically have Whirlwind Blade. Aggressive frames intrinsically have Tireless Blade. This would differentiate all swords and give each a new use outside of damage.

4 RepliesWhy even pretend to know things. You dont know things...I do...and as the knower of the things, I shall impart upon you one of them. Swords are amazing. If you disagree, you are not worthy.

11 RepliesHow about the ridiculous fact that a sword needs ammo? Remove the ammo requirement and add a cool down. I've never seen anyone in game of thrones need ammo

1 ReplyEdited by Jet2Holiday: 1/23/2020 10:33:03 PMSwords should not on be Heavy slot. They should be Special weapons. You can't change my mind.

I did a last wish with rookies so it failed spectacularly but for fun I used a black talon and a legendary sword. I did top damage with both. I was shocked.

I feel like that Peacock 🦚 running around... Come out come out where ever you are! Plus the guard feature is pretty good defense when you don’t typically have a defensive ability other then your super.

Ok. What about this crazay idea: Swords (and other melee weapons) have a slot of their own, as a 4th kind of weapon. I know it's not an issue on PC, but idk if console would support another button input (I suppose with a small compromise it can), and they get completely reworked. Just like Warframe is a game (i'm not making any comparissons ok? Just giving you an example) where it's possible to have primary/secondary weapon and ALSO a melee weapon. Now obviously, the question here is: Why would you need an exclusive melee weapon if we already have a melee? First, stats would be a thing (swords reworked could contain some passive stats that would increase some stats, or even modify certain things about your character, like running speed, jump, or even regular stat like resilience, etc). Then, we might start talking about the fact that melee weapons would have some sort of setup/build up mechanic, similar to the combo multipliers in warframe as: Characters melees would always be stronger in a "1 use scenario", however, for any combo situation swords would get stronger and stronger providing you can mantain it. Of course that means that it would have to be tuned DOWN compared to the current scenario, but no ammo would be required. You would have your normal and charge attacks (each one with it's own uniqueness and mechanics and combos. PS: That can still leave some swords as Heavy weapons, but then those are really supposed to be powerful "1 hit" type of weapons, kind of like they way they are now, but tuned UP.

I want the forward sword lunge when swiping through the air. Extra damage on heavy attk as well.

It'll be nice if the swords could reflect bullets back, when blocking. Exotic idea... -25% of the bullets damage output, on sword (block) reflection hit. Damage reflection reduction is less with quick multi hits, stacks, +5% added with each hit reflected, stacks x5 gives 100% damage reflection. Sword can be thrown a short distance - exploding

Edited by Atlus1014: 1/23/2020 4:14:40 AMSo my comment really only applies if you are a Titan. But Strongholds + (ThroneCleaver/Black Talon) are a REALLY enjoyable build to run. With a perfect block you get the heals from Strongholds and the Damage boost from Counterattack on the ThroneCleaver (Black Talon has similar perk on the catalyst). Pair that with the Bleeding Edge mod that was released this season for more Super on Sword kills. Use the Taking Charge and the Striking Light mods to generates beaucoup orbs for your teammates. (Hoping these mods stick around) All that said, I’m ALWAYS happy when they offer improvements to Swords. So I hope this post gets traction (not the mod).

For me, the heavy attacks on Lightweight and Heavy frames need a buff. Only the Adaptive frames are worth using because of the multi hit charge of whirlwind, and the capability of killing supers in PvP. They don't really need any more damage. They need air combos for enemies like the Servitor in the ether gather pub event. Currently the best way to use a sword is jump, light, heavy, heavy, repeat. And that does not carry much in the air. Also swords would really benefit from having customizable special attacks with random rolls, like the spinning and charging etc. Etc. Also swords+stronghold is pretty good for anything else but top tier content solo anyways.

6 RepliesNumber 2 will never happen because you could melt bosses, swords already melt the bosses unless you get hit by a stomp.

Make legendary swords special weapons.

A big fat nope on number 4 because i have tireless and whirlwind on my sword.

For the most part, swords are actually really solid in the damage department. However, to suggest putting more perks or intrinsic perks as a bandaid is not the proper solution. And to the people thinking that swords need to use different ammo, you clearly have not used them enough. 1. Sword damage is actually really high for burst damage. BUT not all bosses are quite so vulnerable to swords, or they simply resist stagger. 2. Swords ammo is quite fine in the power slot, as several perks allow you too squeeze more out of it, doubling the amount of usage you can get from it (ex. Tireless blade), or allowing sustained, single target damage (whirlwind blade). There are also nifty damage bonus perks that help make the most out of your ammo. BUT the max ammo reserves for swords is pretty low, and the difference between minimum sword ammo and maximum is about 16 on average. I think sword reserves and the perks should have a bigger impact, and maximum sword ammo should cap out at 80. 3. Swords are decent at blocking damage. BUT the only perks you want for it is either heavy guard or infinite guard. The other options are vastly inferior. Also, certain attacks should be reevaluated in terms of sword ammo drain in both PvP and PvE. Certain attacks will chew through even infinite guard in the blink of an eye, rendering it a waste of ammo. Personally, guard defense and efficiency effectivness should be buffed by 50%, minimum. 3. Swords in Destiny used to buff your defense by default, allowing you to take more damage while using a sword. I would like to see a similar feature return to Destiny 2. Maybe even perks that allow for an overshield gain or health regen on kills or multikills. But a built in defense buff or damage reduction to all swords would be appreciated. 4. Changing sword ammo to be special, or primary, or not at all is the dumbest thing. Ever. Because then they would have to do less damage in order to keep balance, be inferior to other special weapons or primaries, and officially have no purpose in your inventory. The people making these statements are doing more harm than good. 5. Swords are inconsistent against certain targets in the game, or become inconsistent while attacking. Phasing through a target should never happen. Short stops need to be eliminated. And lunges should either happen or not, and not some, awkward halfway rubberband lunge. That's my summary on the state of swords.
-
Number 4 is a neat idea. There needs to be more variety to swords. I don't know about you but my Stryker's Sure-Hand with Surrounded and Surrounded spec does an insane amount of damage. Besides the uselss blocking I often have problems with trying to aim a sword.
-
3 RepliesCan not conpletly agree. Yes no one is using swords anymore. I think the damage is still fine but the big problem is that you can not use them vs. Bosses cause of their stupid stomp attack. They should rethink about the stomp attack of all the bosses. Every other heavy weapon is fine vs. Bosses but the chance to get killed because you get kicked through the hole map is to high specially in endgame. In pvp its the lack of ammo maybe swords would be more used if they would have special ammo instead of heavy ammo. Sorry for the bad english it is not my language.
-
1 ReplyBlock needs to not take half my ammo per shot. It's not even worth blocking attacks unless you're wearing Stronghold.

We need Boomerangs in this game.

Backup plan - that's the solution to everything.
