Does anybody get bored and just go to Google Maps and follow random freeways just to see how far/where they go?

1 ReplyWhen Google Earth was newer I used to look around, but anymore the only time I look at the map is if I need to figure out a new place that I have to go to. I always review the route to where I'm going before turning on the GPS in route.

3 RepliesIt’s more fun to actually get in the car and do that. We used to pile up in the car and try to get lost for fun. This was before cell phones though. Pick a direction and go. Switch paths every hour or so.

Bored? Sometimes I do that on my work, because topographical/geodesic data may not be correct, and I have to verify, whether "it fits". Imagine, once we worked on design of a building, that supposed to have 50 metres of clearance to nearby buildings. However, whomever created a project, seriously flopped up, as their building was overlapping the nearest. Naturally, just 20 cm left. Had quite the conversation and "scene at nature", when we offered them to visit prospective construction site. Some toy crane maybe would've fit in there. So yeah, I do that. Sadly those streetview cameras not always go where I want to. :)

1 ReplyYes. Found out that you can see one of my friends walking out of his house with his dog on street view. His face is blurred but it's very obviously him. I don't think he realized the Google truck was driving by at the time.

No I've done that... not often or recently though.

I've been using Google Maps/Earth lately to get an idea of what NYC looked like in the early 60's, mostly for my BATIM film I'm writing.

I've done it once, I don't see the appeal to be honest, but I guess some people are curious in doing stuff like that.

12 RepliesEdited by Zonda: 8/16/2019 10:39:39 AMI’d do it more in my own car but fuel is expensive and my entire car seems to share its resonant frequency with the pitch of my exhaust note. Literal tinnitus on wheels unless you’re punching along at 5,000+ rpm at all times. Exploring on maps is neat tho

I always go to North Korea and Iran

Nope. I used to, though not so much anymore. I always turned the satellite part on, so I could see things when I would zoom in.

Yes you’re the only one on the entire planet earth with 7 billion souls living on it. You’re unique!
