This will be a rather short post.
To summarize what Luke Smith said: Bungie is taking away the Stranger and they think she was exited properly.
I know. Very upsetting.
I made this post to discuss the subject. Specifically, the Stranger’s exit.
Now, Luke said the Stranger was exited properly. This, of course, is subject to opinion.
The Stranger’s goal is to stop the Vex. She does this by traveling through time and space, entering different realities and thwarting the Vex in any way she can. She does this then moves on, eternally fighting a war against them.
Because of all this skipping around through timelines, she only really spends a short amount of time in each branch. She shows up, does what she has to do, then leaves.
We barely saw her in the game, and in the lore, and she remains a huge mystery. But she left before we could get any answers. As disappointing as that is, it’s true to the Stranger’s character. In a way, that makes the experience even better. Being left wondering about the Stranger is the point. That’s her entire character.
Her story isn’t over, but this could very well be the last we’ll see of her.
I definitely want the Stranger back, but I feel that Bungie does deserve some credit for the fact that she was exited well, even if her time was brief.
Her character is supposed to be a total mystery, who's goal is to stop the Vex. That was established quite clearly in-game, and even more so in the grimoires. She travels through space and time, does what she can to foil the Vex's plans, then moves on. And that's exactly what happened.
That sums up my post.

Don't know why I'm bumping you for this, guess I'm just a nice guy, but she isn't exited xD even tho they dumped all the lore like dummies, the game will go on with her in it... Somehow

10 RepliesI'm no lore expert by any means but I think Bungie just wanted the Stranger to be a "mysterious drifter" & as guardians we were never meant to figure out her story. On the real life side of things, my guess is that the actor that did her voice is way too busy with The Walking Dead to be involved with the game beyond Destiny 1.

2 RepliesShe set us on the path to the Black Garden and when we completed it she gave us her weapon along with an ambiguous message that's there's still plenty of 'darkness' for us (meaning our guardian) to fight. Her story was concluded, get over it.

2 RepliesEdited by CookieNiki: 6/17/2017 2:54:51 PMI believe that the Stranger had a more extensive and deep role in the game... back in the original story that Bungie trashed. When they made that copy/paste disjointed joke of a "story" for Destiny 1, they used it to give a little sense of mystery and depth to the game. And it worked, it really made us (at least me) hunger for the next chapters of that character story. Problem is that Bungie doesn't have a clue how to integrate and develop that character in the mess they've made with Destiny "story". And they also don't give a shit about it, as is clearly obvious when they say that it was perfectly wrapped up (it wasn't, not even near). I believe all Destiny' games will be like that. Scattered pieces of lore with many of them having no continuity and conclusion. It's a great game to spend time after work killing aliens and having some time of fun but when it comes to that "become legend" part we can forget it completely. Even Bungie says that those who never played Destiny 1 haven't missed anything. Probably they will say the same about D1 and D2 when they release Destiny 3. "Become Legend" is just marketing, not something that you can really achieve within the game.
-
What you're saying was also what I thought, Bungie exited her very well from D1, she played her role in D1 and then she didn't have to be put in the game anymore but her overall story still seems incomplete
-
1 Reply"But she always comes up. She always comes up, so there’s obviously something to that character that piques people’s curiosity." She's not gone. Not completely. The character is gone, but especially since they gave hints to her in TTK, her story isn't complete.
-
3 RepliesI just want to know who she was talking to.

STREXIT

2 RepliesI'm glad that you had time to explain.
-
Just because she gone doesn't mean that we won't find out more about her.
-
1 ReplyThe last thing she says is something like "there is still much work for us to do" how is that wrapped up...
-
4 RepliesNo one seems to be mentioning this: when did Luke Smith become story lead? He said he thought the Stranger was exited properly, not that whoever is writing the story now thinks so. And speaking of whoever writes the story, if there really is all this story potential behind the Stranger, I'm sure they'll take advantage of that. This is what I assume Smith means with his "issue 0" comment. "Issue 0" introduced a bunch of characters, but you shouldn't expect all of their stories to be wrapped up by the end of "Issue 1." The other option is that they wrote themselves into a corner in the beginning and that was the only acceptable exit they could make for her. If the Stranger was a fundamentally bad character for the story they wanted to write, I think it's absolutely okay for her to not come back.
-
1 ReplyIf you don't know the most important characters name after the end of the game, they were not exited properly. To say that she is meant to be a mystery is a cop-out, mysteries are meant to be solved.
-
2 RepliesWell she Is the exo stranger. Hence, Stranger. So I guess we never were supposed to know her lol.
-
11 RepliesHer timeline is no longer in unison with our own. She saved her present day by having The Guardian destroy the Sol Progeny. This changed the future, her future, and she left once her job was done. She even warned of dangers that would have come as a result of the manipulation of time. Her story in our universe is done and there is no way for her to return.
-
2 RepliesThe problem is that Bungie takes away the characters people are interested. Perfect example are the queen and the stranger. People liked them because they were mysterious and cool, but instead of building on that Bungie has basically gotten rid of them
-
Exited properly is one way to put it. Technichally he isn't wrong Having someone give you a gun the disappear into a puddle of water (much like the classic Wizard of Oz) is one way to properly exit a character. Unsatifying conclusion? Pile of shit for a story? WTAF !!!! My 5 y/o could have done better ... all of these above more accurately portrait the state of the Destiny 1 story line.

Imagine if they tied the revamp of original D1 story with the Exo Stranger as lore. She was from the original story timeline where the Traveler was "evil" and found out that the Black Heart was the cause. When she went back in time to our timeline she found a jumbled mess of a story but was able to stop the black heart with our help. Thus erasing her from time and the original story lol
-
6 RepliesI doubt we've seen/heard the last of her. To many questions still, like who was she talking to, where did she come from, and where did she go. If not in destiny 2 then probably a ways down the road wether it be a major expansion or destiny 3.
-
She etched "soon" into the no time to explain and sent it through time to us . . . Meaning she is going to explain

Edited by SerDannoRanAway: 6/18/2017 10:56:00 PMShe was not properly exited from the story at all. Basically, she was a remnant of the Destiny story that existed before the major overhaul pre-release. Rather than create something coherent about who she is and what the history is, they have taken the lazy way out and are just writing her off.
-
3 RepliesI just feel that even though they did a really good job closing her part in Vanilla with the whole "you defeated the Vex in the Garden, here's a gun" thing, they really shouldn't take her out of the game as long as there's still Vex in the game. Her whole character is devoted to being someone that is going through time to stop the Vex, so if Bungie has any more plans for the Vex then it would make sense to have her appear again to guide the course of our Guardian
-
Except bungie kept adding grimoire for her up through TTK. If they would have said nothing since vanilla, I get it. But to add cards linking her to Rasputin and make it seem like she is about to play a role (NTTE quest), then to say her story is done??? Why bother adding grimoire for her?

1 ReplyMysterious characters are always alluring, but they are double edged swords. Once their origins/backstories are revealed, people tend to lose interest in them, especially if that backstory is dissapointing (remember Boba Fett?). My sense is that people feel she will never return and/or they want her backstory now, not later.
