The Conservative Party went into this election with a small majority; not huge, but workable enough that they could get things done. Theresa May called the election because she wanted a bigger majority for the sake of Brexit. A bigger majority means a stronger voice when debating negotiation stances within Parliament, and a stronger voice within the negotiations themselves.
But she failed. Labour have scooped up 30-odd seats, the Tories have lost about that much too although they remain the largest party, but neither have a crucial majority in the House of Commons, so now - just 10 days before the formal Brexit negotiations are due to start - no single party has a strong enough governing mandate.
Thanks Theresa, you've done a wonderful job securing a strong and stable government to take us out of Europe.
Oh wait.

12 RepliesTheresa May really shouldn't have called this election. The only thing it achieved was giving the opposition more power which will inevitably alter Brexit. I think all that running through wheat fields has finally gone to her head. On the bright side, maybe this will stop some of the Tories' surveillance state legislation from passing?

That manifesto was a nightmare. Here's to hope she can get a good deal for Britain.
Better not louse that up, or Britain will be screwed.
1 ReplyIn case anyone cares. She's just propped up her government with a party who pretty much are the Irish version of the Westboro Baptist Church.
-
Well with the current state of Parliament right now, and the Conservative/DUP coalition that PM May has proposed, I foresee an election quite soon, as very few Parliamentarians and British citizens will approve of a far-right party allying with the Conservatives; especially after the disastrously authoritarian Conservative Manifesto was released. 19 RepliesShes a mess, she should just resign already.

5 RepliesTbh (and most likely overthinking things) I kinda think May figured out that she had perhaps bitten off more than she can chew with the whole Brexit thing and wanted to lose this election... I mean who in their right mind that wants to appeal to the masses says they want to bring back fox hunting? There was also a few other somewhat err not great things she said as well, I can't remember exactly what but I know they weren't all that good...
-
3 RepliesTheresa May warned about the possibility of a half-assed, ramshackle coalition propped up by terrorist sympathizers, but she neglected to mention that it would be her trying to establish that coalition.
-
1 ReplyIf she had just sat back and continued doing what she was doing, she would've had this election wrapped up. But nope, she had to go on about going full 1984 and wanting to control the internet.

2 RepliesIn all honesty if people told me two months ago that we were going to end up with a Hung Parliament I would have laughed in their faces. Calling the election was a huge gamble and this is the worst possible result. Going into Brexit negotiations with a Hung Parliament is just going to make Britain's position weaker at the negotiating table. It didn't help that the Tory manifesto was full of really questionable ideas like bringing back both fox hunting and the Ivory trade. It's not to say that all the ideas were bad - like wanting to control immigration from the EU and raise NHS funds by a minimum of 8 billion. What really did it for me was trying to control and censor the internet. Theresa May wanting to essentially control and regulate the kind of news that was posted online. Some things I can agree to being censored - but when it states 'other sorts of harm' I knew that could possibly turn into something people (or government) simply didn't agree with - truth or not. Allowing the government to control what is and isn't posted on sites such as Facebook just wouldn't work. It's just become a joke at this point. Allying with the DUP - yeah we'll see how that works out...

Who's Hung?
Me ;)
Are media is like look at Theresa going in to church I hope she's praying hard because she needs divine intervention It took years to sort out the peace process in Ireland ,the government has always played mediator between the two political parties ,who advised her to side with the DUP???????? Political suicide . It could jeopardise everything we've worked for. But no one in the media is talking about it.

That's it, Europe's dead to me.
-
Ah well she was trying to keep power tho
-
4 RepliesAnd even better than that, we now have her allying with a party of religious nutcases. I was never going to vote conservative, but I was particularly concerned about May's religious views, and now she's choosing to associate with anti-gay marriage, climate change denying, pro life fundamentalists. I was right to be concerned.

21 RepliesEdited by ReignofSpartain: 6/9/2017 7:23:17 PMBrexit is stupid. Hopefully this helps in some way. Anyone with half a brain knows it would not do anything but sustain hypernationalists at the cost of the people. If they are able to "sweeten the deal" it would simply trigger every other nation to leave and do the same shit. Give it 10 years after the EU breaks before we are at a pre WW2 state.
-
But how can Europe leave itself ?

I see the Tories have a new logo...

1 ReplyRussia. Calin' it right now. Russia hacked that election

7 RepliesClinton, to Le Pen, and now May. Women suck at politics.

Maysie, Maysie give me your answer do...

9 RepliesSo, "Hung Parliament" means no majority for either party?
-
Ahh it's good to know the US isn't the only nation with shitstorm politics lately. Just let's you know that most countries all have a large divide. A divide that needs desperately to be closed.

Agreed

The more I think about it, the more I think Corbyn has come out of this the strongest. He knew full well that after Cameron ruined the Lib Dems (served them right too, dirty sellouts) no parties other than UKIP or the DUP would touch the Tories with a barge pole. UKIP were clearly dead in the water, and the DUP are a real unsavoury bunch who are likely to taint anyone they deal with. Therefore, May was handed an impossible choice - allow Labour, SNP and Lib Dems to form a minority government, or hook up with the DUP and pray that their stench doesnt transfer to the Cons. Either way, it potentially plays into Corbyns hands...
