Over the course of destiny from the House of Wolves period to now the Thorn has been constantly nerfed because of community feedback. The thorn's unique perk,"mark of the devourer" was nerfed into oblivion. What once did 7 damage a tic of burn has been neutered to a depressing 2 damage per tick. I agreed with the initial nerf of the thorn, causing it to lose its ability to two shot people was a good thing, but I feel the range reduction in the previous patch was totally uncalled for. With the state of handcannons now, if your handcannon doesn't have maxed out range bar at 62 you might as well not even use it. Thorns only remaining strength was that it could reach max range with send it. The exotic perk was killed off, and now the consistency at any kind of distance as well. Reverse the 25% range reduction in the last update, and maybe just maybe thorn will be usable again. Just my opinion:P plz comment below.

You're title describes a lot of year one weapons. Remember when weapons used to be powerful?
-
1 ReplySo the Thorn has gone full circle. Started off shitty, became great, now back to shitty. Anyone remember back when yr 1 Thorn took like 18 seconds for a reload? I do.
-
2 Replieslike much of this game, it became watered down and easy, people didn't like getting killed by anything so everything has been turned into a pea shooter.. name a weapon and its been effected by a nerf.. instead of buffing other things, it was always make a weapon less effective.. removing the fun from it and satisfying the crybabies..

No one seems to remember how terrible a gun it was when first released. The amount of work it took to get one left a lot of people furious, as it was initially pretty useless at everything. They buffed it, and I ruled the crucible with it before most people realized how op it was. I could cross map nail anyone with 3-4 shots on any map. I didn't at the time realize how op it was, as it was year one and I wasn't on the boards yet. Everyone caught on, the gun was used by everyone that had it, and THEN bungie nerfed it. Nerfed the hell outta it. I haven't used it since the second nerfing, so I can't really attest to it anymore. But apparently it's just an ordinary hc at this point.

1 ReplyI say at least make them powerful for PvE. Makes sense to neuter some of these guns for PvP, for the sake of leveling the playing field, but I don't think that should apply to PvE.
-
6 RepliesAll they need to do to thorn is buff it's range to 62 and remove its stacking effect and buff the tick to 4 damage for 5 ticks
-
To Bungie Make Thorn great again! Love Terrain Bungie : No, but we could add more DLCs into Destiny 2 :D
-
See, I feel that even if they brought thorn back to the peak of its power (7 damage per tick) it wouldn't be that overpowered as there are so many counters to it, the DoT damage reduction artifact being a large one. The archetype was also changed if I'm not mistaken, it's in the 77 damage headshot instead of the 86 damage headshot now, so it wouldn't be able to two-tap.

2 RepliesEdited by Droid: 12/21/2016 8:18:05 PMSolid post. No reason why Thorn shouldn't have excellent base range. Same with hawkmoon. ( I know. Not a hwkmoon post. But might as well cover this weapon considering we're addressing range as an issue. )

1 ReplyThe last word once mighty.. now pathetic
-
I am the mighty Thor........n
-
1 ReplyI can totally overlook the laughable DoT if they just gave it the 25% of range that they just randomly took before the poor bastard child of destiny was obtainable again. Tbh reverse the range nerf and I'll he happy with thorn.
-
All exotic primaries received this treatment.
-
The range is the only thing that made thorn usable and now it got nerfed and the gun is complete trash, only thing in pvp now is the clever dragon. They should fire everyone at bungie
-
Bump. I got it. Tried it. Noted how ridiculously weak and pathetic it has become. Sharded it. Separate PvP from PvE. Then turn Thorn back into its former glorious self in PvE. The PvP whiner bitches can still be safe.
-
I have no idea what your all talking about. Use the weapon have fun the game is not competitive. Stop crying.
-
Yes it's pretty sad it's definitely unusable, smh just a waste of even getting it now.
-
Thorn is good, but the dot blows
-
1 ReplyIt's usable, just not OP.
-
Yep.....did the quest, checked off my rise of iron book and put it in the vault.
-
1 ReplyThorn was perfect pre-April update IMO.
-
1 ReplyIt's sad how they've destroyed Thorn, but don't expect them to do shit at this point about any major fixes to the game, in their mind Destiny 1 done and these events are just recycled content and micro transactions Side note don't bring up scoring in strikes likes its groundbreaking of a feature because it's not
-
Don't forget how easily neutered it is.... Playing someone who's good with Thorn? Just put on the DoT artifact.
-
16 RepliesWell, Thorn's not the only gun that has suffered because crucible players crying for nerf. This has been since Destiny launched. Vex mythoclast, Suros regime, Thorn..list goes on. The problem can be resolved by separating PvE and PvP, but Bungie doesn't seem to agree I guess.

22 RepliesEdited by Der Sheff: 12/20/2016 1:50:05 AMPeople mistakenly assume that DoT is the exotic perk for Thorn. Look at what it does: it marks the target, allows you to track them behind cover, visually and audibly disrupts the enemy player, prevents health regeneration and over-penetrates with railroad spikes (allowing you to damage multiple targets with one bullet). How is all of that excluded when talking about Thorn as an exotic? Nope, side cast it because I don't get postmortem kills from DoT... how about you actually see a kill all the way through? Bungie (s)killed Thorn. They need to balance it a little more by remove damage over time and increasing range. The "damage" over time should be dealt in 4 ticks of 0, preventing regeneration only. Then increase the range and let it perform how it did originally... to a certain extent.
