Just curious, I have noticed a trend in which more and more players blow right past most of the bad guys and race straight to the "Boss Fights" often to a point of leaving a teammate who is fighting the minions behind. I thought the idea was to have fun playing the game, it seems more and more people are approaching the game as a race to collect funds and gear and less and less about just having fun with the gaming experience. Seriously, how can it be just racing through two thirds of a strike/mission?
Am I off base in my observation?
Food for thought: Excluding Night-falls, Heroics and Raids most of the legendary or better stuff I have gotten have not come from dropping a boss but just some lowly minion. I still clearly recall my first legendary drop. I was doing the Cerberus Vae III strike, dropped a Legionnaire thought I saw a "Rare" item dropped although the coloring looked a little off. I just assumed it was the way the light was striking the item (Since I had never seen a legendary before). Well low and behold I had my first legendary item just from some minion.

The beginning stuff is a waste of time in my opinion. I careless about vanguard legendaries. I rock a VoG primary or Exotic over a crap Vanguard weapon. Same thing for special and heavy slot. I use Black Hammer and Hunger of Crota. The beginning of strikes with all the level 2 crap is really boring to me.

3 RepliesI'll never get why people grind strikes. Or why grind at all. It's a game, not work! That legendary engram is going to be shards anyway! You'll get that exotic when you get it, why grind for a 1% chance of a drop? Seriously. Just get the marks and buy legendaries from the vendors. And the raid gear is much better anyway, even the 300 ones. Kick back, relax, and enjoy the ride. It's only boring if you make it so.

I just let em go lol...im either collecting glimmer or xp for upgrading gear or weapons.
-
The only parts I run thro is where ur fighting lvl3 - 8 's trying to get to the higher lvl enemys
-
Yesterday I got 3 legendary engrams on mars back to back to back by sniping with my IB. Which turned out to be nothing but a shotgun and shards.
-
Remember when strikes used to be fun but died a little after the 100th or so time? Pepperidge farm remembers.
-
Just to add to this, I literally just done 3 strikes, all 3 rushed by the other two guys. They got nothing but blues as rewards. I stayed back on the last strike and got a few kills. Resulting in legendary gear for me and nothing for them. Point being you shouldn't always rush.

I just Ghorn everything to speed things up

Edited by inthenameofharman: 1/19/2015 5:45:33 PMif I recall, most strikes require you to kill enemies before moving on at certain parts. My rule is if the place you're in lets you self respawn, it should be ok to run through it if you can since it's somewhat like filler in my opinion.(depending on the day)
-
It all depends, sometimes I run through because I'm only a mark or two away from getting what I need. Other times I kill every add I see in order to complete bounties or upgrade something. I find that the more I kill the more engrams drop, so if your engram farming, don't speed through. I only have a problem with speedrunners when they I go down because they ignore adds during the boss fight it refuse to revive you.

Edited by Striker93175: 1/19/2015 5:50:40 PMI rush. All reasons stated already. But I rush and turn. Like on the VAE mars strike I'll rush to the gate doors and when they open turn and kill to let the team catch up. Or summoning pits rush to the double knights turn and kill them and start moving back. I find if you have non rushers it helps if you squeeze them from front and back that way things are dead by the time the non rushers get to you and they have no other option but to move on. Yeah I could get straight to the boss and let them catch up... But this way I get the other two guns to the bullet sponge faster - he ultimately dies faster.

Edited by Meilf: 1/19/2015 5:52:58 PMWhether they approach it as a grind or a game is irrelevant. If you want to grind, you'd kill all the enemies. If you want to have fun, you'd kill all the enemies. The players who run through are ignorant and annoying.
-
When I'm doing the strike for a specific reason then yeah I won't bother killing every single thing (I agree though that if you want/need more legendaries then kill mobs). But if the two others guys don't skip after I ran ahead I'll come back. Just makes the strike go faster to help anyways

6 RepliesEdited by Desmond of Vanguard: 1/19/2015 5:47:18 PMI love killing everything at the strikes. If someone wants to rush on, be my guest, but if they just take checkpoint and die: I'd rather leave. Very inconsiderable of others to ruin people's fun playing the strikes in proper way. Even when it is bit slower than what they want. They can always play solo if they want to skip things and shoot at the boss in the end. :) That way they don't have to deal with slow team mates.

I find grinding fun. The best part of a strike for me is seeing the reward screen and hoping for something decent.
-
I used to take my time and kill everything but I've done these strikes for what seems a million time so it's more of a chore now, if I can blast trough then why not ?
-
1 ReplyFor my clan and I we've done every strike hundreds of times and what is fun for us is challenging ourselves to set new records in shortest time completed. Some we can do in under 10 minutes and others in under 15. It makes it fun trying to kill the boss as quickly as possible and finding new ways to get to the end as quickly as possible

Well i some times rush through crap mobs but kill everything in the no respawn zone.Personally i believe the saving time excuse is just a cop out i have never ever seen a rusher finish the strike before i get there so they're not really saving alot of time.People seem to lose perspective about the RNG system. Think of it like your playing the slot machines at the casino the more you pull that handle(kill mobs) the more you improve your odds.Plus by rushing your also depriving yourself of alot of other important mats like; more rares for your cryptach lvl, more seed, black wax,ect and glimmers of course and the occasionally rare purple engrams AND the end rewards. And then there's always little side benefits to killing trash mobs, its a great way to reduce your ammo cost.Refilling ammo on trash mobs is alot better then spending a bought ammo synt. So basically rushing through isn't as lucrative and time efficient as people make it out to be. In fact rushing throught just decreases your reward output, because your just getting less RNG rolls, less mats, less drops of any kind. There's no way you can pull two strikes in the time of doing one full run(well like i said i never seen one finish before i got there). That being said i do understand those who rush throught because they're tired of the repetition or just strike because there's a bounty and want it over and done. But know this you are reducing your odds by doing so.The only way rushing can work at being efficient is when everyone in the party does it.

I didn't read your wall but from the title, I can honestly say I'm not having fun during strikes and I do go straight to the boss because I grind roc strikes :(
-
I play strikes for the end reward, or to defeat the main. So sticking around to kill minions in zones I don't have to clear for the end fight... well I dip and dodge!
-
1 ReplyAfter doing the same strikes hundreds of times, you just want to get it over with. Chances are you would have dropped that same legendary engram half way through the strike anyways.
-
6 RepliesFunny, I used to speed run if the others did. I deleted one of my titans and started a warlock. Now I'm in desperate need of hardonic essence. So I take my time and kill everything. Also, since I'm working on my grimoire, I need scout rifle kills. People can go ahead, doesn't bother me one bit. I'll work on my shit.
-
I do them either for a bounty or for vanguard marks, and usually just want to get it over with. But if the mood strikes me I won't speed run it.
-
Edited by BalanceAngel_9: 1/19/2015 6:38:55 PMI run it cause, I do the strike to kill the boss.
-
Depends on the goal. If I want glimmer, kill all. If I want vanguard points, ignore all.

This happened to me yesterday. By the time I got to the "Big Boss Man", after fighting my way through on my own, he had less than a quarter life left. I thought for sure they thought I was holding back to get through the strike. It was through matchmaking and neither of the other two were using a mic. If I had known the plan I could have followed along. I'm not too fond of matchmaking, so what few strikes I have run have been for bounties. Guess I'm just too new to the game and still find it fun/exciting to shoot my way through everything.
